Don’t ask me why, I haven’t read it. Must have something to do with too many Geordies carry revolvers and the police needing some recruits with more than 6 lives. maybe.
isn’t this the same dude who wants to decriminalise drugs?
its clearly a PR exercise to show “cops are humans too” but to be fair he does come across as a well educated chap with a sense of humour.
I noticed he wrote the reply and drew the cat picture using a fountain pen – his handwriting is also very good for a bloke (much better than mine) especially someone who of the mindset who would join the cops or uniformed services.
Unfortunately for Durham Metpol in London got there first way back in the 80s. At Hendon when they trained Police dogs and handlers they already had an official cat whose job was to strut past the line of trainee dogs.
To pass they all had to ignore the cat; remain still and not tug on their leads.
Not sure if Hendon still does this training as it may now be devolved to each borough division or even shared with TVP, Essex or other neighbouring constabularies but their press office released the photo (this was also in the days when specialist officers still wore more traditional uniform rather than the American style kit) – it did look like something more out of Monty Python than a real training exercise and was widely used on comedy postcards about Britain that were sold to foreigners in shops across London and the South East.
