I wanted to try and tune into the Coastguard weather broadcasts (as I live very near tidal rivers and the sea) and monitor what the boaters were at but my old VHF/UHF scanner has given up the ghost ; so I was looking at a new one (scanning is pretty much tolerated now as cops etc have all gone digital)
Anyway this was one the maplins website.. people can email questions about each bit of kit and have then answered by staff. Check question no 4…

the answer is actually valid…
If there are aliens landing and they decide to communicate using analogue unencrypted VHF/UHF then the scanner will pick them up :alien_abd

I certainly do. It’s absured to think that there is not another planet that sustains life out there in the universe.
By the way, what’s the theory behind space being infinite? I think I need to read some Stephen Hawkins.
