This is a report from lemonde, a mainstream newspaper of France. its politics are described as centre-left, about the same as the Guardian or Independent.

Un jeune Français de 26 ans, retrouvé inconscient dans sa voiture samedi après-midi, est décédé d’un arrêt cardiaque malgré l’intervention du service médical d’urgence, a annoncé la préfecture. more than 25 000 people are at a Teknival forbidden by the authorities of Bouafles (Eure), which started Friday 01 May and planned to go on until Sunday.
The local Council have announced that a 26 year old French man was found unconcious in his car on Saturday and died of a cardiac arrest despite the intervention of the Ambulance Service. An autopsy of the casualty will take place.
Many British, as well as Germans, Italians, Spanish, Dutch and Belgians are participating in this rave. Tents and vans of sound stacks have been set up. But the (environmental) conditions started to deteriorate by Saturday afternoon in the absence of toilets and rubbish collection. Médicins du monde and the Red Cross are on the site, but according to one of their staff in insufficient numbers. The Fire Brigade are patrolling the exterior of the rave.
150 gendarmes are on the approach roads, as well as teams of Customs officers and sniffer dog units. The emergency medical services have treated 22 people and 8 people have had to be evacuated. Around 20 people have been questioed and searched, and 6 arrested for posession of drugs or driving under the influence.

[/quote]by this afternoon (sunday), some of the 25000 ravers were leaving the site of bouafles, in the Eure where since Friday an illegal rave had been carrying on, during which a 26 year old French man had been found dead.
According to a Council spokesperson, the exodus of ravers started in the morning and carried on thoughout sunday, “without any public order problems”.
Fabienne Buccio, the Council leader, said “we expect to have have more people this afternoon” – we estimate 15 000 people remain on site, with rigs in place.
(I have removed from the text some repeated bits about the 26 year old casualty
here are some more casualty / arrest figures..
In total, the Council has counted 48 medical evacuations.
98 people have been questioned by cops during the weekend and 19 arrested.
131 E tables, 322g of cannabis, 325g of heroin, 245g of amfetamine, 5g of magic mushrooms and 25 LSD blotters have bee seized.
over 300 gendarmes have now been mobilised.
another figaro report mentions these charges
these are assaulting a police officer, throwing bottles (presumably at the keufs), criminal/environmental damage and a rather abstract offence of “putting others in danger” which seems peculiar to the French criminal justice system!
this is from an alternative / progressive French site

I haven’t had time to translate the entire article (which berates the councils in other regions and the rest of the media for overreacting
this bit
is a claim from the “drugs harm prevention workers” that by Sunday afternoon the cops had started confiscating rigs and caused fear amongst sound system owners, who did not dare to leave their positions.
It does sound from this that by Sunday the French had enforced the equivalent of a S63 on the rave, but it has wound down without too much violence / bloodshed
thankfully –
be good to hear from any PV-ers who went and their experiences when they back
found another interesting bit of info about the 2006 (legal) teknival – the local Council sued the central Government for letting the teknival happen (the locals didn’t want it in the first place) I might start another thread about this in the law section but will read the rest of the article tomorrow – any more French tonight and I will end up wearing a striped jersey, tying onions to my bicycle and muttering “ouais, bof!” at people whilst constantly drunk…
how come you so good at french? just schooling or?
and dont forget the beret and string of garlic if your gonna do the whole stereotype :laugh_at:
partly school but I also had to work with a lot of French engineers in my last job (some of whom would attempt over ambitious schemes and then cry like babies when everything went tits up – and I often had to console them in French) – plus I developed a genuine interest in languages from my mid teens.
the French onion sellers still exist, as do their distinctive utility bikes (which are “sportier” than their British or German equivalents) and even today the winner of the Tour de France étape (stage) in the Basque regions gets a beret as a prize :laugh_at:
wicked!!! :laugh_at:

FUCK…..
sadly the French and many of the hardcore “tekno traveller” types do like their smack. qu’est-ce-çest? alors, y a un gros éléphant dans la chambre..:hopeless:
🙁 that cant be healthy
over 300 gendarmes are now very fucked
Lucky buggers! raaa
not sure if France still has national service but if so a lot of gendarmes will be younger people doing their NS, wouldn’t surprise me if some of the drugs did get diverted..
surprised they didn’t haul in any ketamine – initially I was sceptical about how they would work out exactly what drugs they had but you can get very sophisticated portable testing equipment these days…
