why cant you go to any?

because of the temptation to get into rugs, because I cut all links with everyone in the scene to get away from rugs (alongside getting ill and never going out) and because I think they would be really dull soba without any mates.

I did last year and ended up going every week, dont think I have the self control

from the sound of it – you dont seem to give yourself the opportunity?
it seems you pre-empt a negative reaction –
and that you will end up using drugs, not have a good time – or have ‘too’ much of a good time and keep going back?

    so avoid.

only you can controll your behaviour. have you had CBT? as its about taking controll of automatic negative thoughts and is about you being your own therapist, might be interesting

I cannot control my own behaviour when it comes to drugs and escaping from the pain in my mind, so its really not safe for me to attend. Not even sure festivals are wise tbh.

yeah had CBT, it was utter rubbish tbh, an hour a week for 5 days. I know it can help a lot of people (though I think the format the NHS use is rather poor) but it didn’t help me at all.

Maybe because you thought it was rubbish so didn’t fully embrace the ideas, and give it a chance. So therefore, it didn’t work. I read a leaflet the other day (as was interested to fund out what are cognitive biases) that said it was one of the most powerful treatments for people with moderate to severe depresssion.

perhaps, but I devoted 5 hours to the concept and have read countless documents about it. I am aware of its statical sucess in people with depression. Drugs also show to be statically successful but they made things worse and in some cases caused serious problems.

And anyway, I am in a far more intensive form of therapy and have been for 6 months.

While I am at it, most of the big study’s I have looked at with regards to CBT are much longer courses than the NHS offers. One major study the time period was 16 hours, the NHS gave me 5. 5 hours to overcome years and years of, according to the CBT approach, distorted negative schema’s. Glad it works for some, but it didn’t work for me at all.

always feel better after a good stomp!

the NHS is rolling out IAPT
this is in line with the NICE guidelines – improving access to psychological therapies
it is coming – they are pumping millions and millions into training up therapists and putting them in primary service – there will be ‘low intensity and high intensity therapists’ attatched to places like GP services etc

and as you say you are currently doing what you describe as more intensive therapy – sorry to say whilst your on a downer but we need to be mindful that we are so lucky to have the NHS and free treatment in the UK and mental health services – unlike the USA etc

Maybe there’s a possible middle ground here with parties (he says tongue in cheek)

Ketamine: a novel treatment for depression?
