  • Thats unbelievable!
I had no idea sound systems south of the border were having these sort of problems.
I have to say in the last ten years strathclyde police have only bothered us once. The venue was a dis-used building next door to a golf club, the grounds keeper reported the activity but even then they came had a look and left!
I wish you all the best of luck in out witting them.

The RAC use mobile tracking technology on customers who use mobile phones and who don’t quite know where they are.

It does not take 24 hours for this to take place and the RAC can do it if need be – aparently after I spoke to one in my last job.

    Can anyone confirm the above?

All the large Recovery services – RAC, AA, Greenflag use this technology. If you don’t know where you are they can identify your location to within about 3 metres in seconds. There was an article the news last week about this, but they have to ask your permission to trace you which is why it takes a few seconds. I’m sure the police can do it in realtime.

Also – haven’t you seen the software you can buy to trace your children ? I saw it in a shop in Manchester – and you install it on your home PC ( I think) and if you want to find where your kids are – it signals their moby and you get a map showing where they are ….. think it cost about £40.

So if you can do it at home ………

I really dont think the cost of tracking people via their mobiles would be an deterant to the police, the other night where i live a kid had run away from home had only been missing for about 6 hours when his mum found him and chased him into as field round the back of the village, this was then followed up by a phone call to old bill who sent one helicopter 1 squad car a K9 unit and a police range-rover. All this over one kid who had barely even gone missing an was just hiding in a field from his mum. If any one has got an idea of how much this would have cost the tax payers then it would be good to know. I reckon it was at least a few grand for all of that:surprised

i’ve never heard of the old bill holding back just coz it might push up the budget. how many times have they continuously used helicopters day after day to ‘monitor’ a self contained teknival. they love a bit of it!

this phones issue is one i thinki may have fallen foul of recently

we were taking part of the rig out to a definately private 65th birthday party on a remote farm

it was the week after the davidstow party

i’d given out my number to a few people in case they got lost on the way there

on the day of the party, while i was still in town, my phone could not pick up any network… i’ve had it 2 years and never experienced this except in remote areas

the reception came back the next day at midday

i know the cops have my name and number from free parties a couple years ago… could ‘they’ have been behind blocking my phone?

    well spooky if it was.

anyone know if there’s a way i can find out?

did anyone else you know suffer these faults? Lots of things can also cause this such as network congestion, a cell-site being taken out of service due to technical faults, other sources of radio interference in the area and rival companies having better coverage in certain areas.

I can understand cops doing this with partylines, but it seems less likely for them to do this with someones personal phone number; its pointless as you could just buy another PAYG phone from a market stall for party use and

if they wanted to stop you doing parties they would be more likely to let you use your phone for organising them and then nick you as they get more evidence that way.

its also a clear human rights breach to disrupt peoples private communications if there is no real evidence that mobile is being used for crime, and a rave does not reach this level until it has annoyed enough people..

no-one else i know had this problem, and reception came back at exactly midday

but it does seem over the top / paranoid to think it was dark forces behind the problem

just very inconvenient, as it was a hard place to find.. although only a couple of miles from smeatharpe 😉

the thing is you weren’t even at that event, and your crew has not been active for some time.

I do occasionally get the signal dropping out totally on Vodafone round here but this appears to be more due to technical problems, the fact that I work in bumpkin land and East Anglia traditionally being a BT (now O2) mobile stronghold than anything particularly sinister.

i wasn’t at devidsow, but the level of paranoia from cops after that event accross Devon and Cornwall was immense (and still is)

there were tons of cops with massive water-filled barriers to local party sites

pretty much every local paper ran a headline about zero-tolerance to any raves the following saturday morning

it just seemed odd to get a 24 hour black out on my phone when I’ve had no problems for 2 years (it’s BT mobile incidentally)

Do me a favour, the Very best they can do is an approximation within a few hundred yards. This takes about 24hrs to authorise and is bloody expensive.

Stop it with this scaremongering crap.

We had this matey :you_crazy come onto our site with with what looked like a gun..It turned out to be a starting pistol..but from where my mate woke up lying down with it in his face it looked pretty real!:hopeless:
The Matey then pissed off to the woods along the side of the field where we lived…The Bill could only caught him by his phone signal and they said is was traceable within 1.5 mtrs.

I dont think info like this is scaremongering…its good to be aware..!:bounce_fl

    Roll on telepathy….:weee:

there are more base stations built every year and the more there are the easier it is to get a precise location on where someone is using their mobile.

now with the increasing fear of terrorism there are less qualms over using this technology. OTOH I think if cops constantly started using it merely to track party people and/or drug deals before they occured (as opposed to making use of it when incidents happen) the mobile phone companies would whinge as they would lose revenue as the paranoia deters people from using mobiles that often.

Heard that a rig that was out last night refused to give out directions on the hotline. Instead you had to contact someone you know from the rig or sumone that was already at the party!

Suppose this will be effective in sum manners but its still all down to the location, people can still ring the O.B to complain.

    Anyone out last nite???

Well thats not exactly new, quite often the rig owner ul call up sum people who ul tell people and then sum1 ul go 2 a club b4 the party tell sum people there and so on and so on till u got ur self a party.

    yea i went to a feild yesterday not a sasuage…even a pigglet.

there all to busy sizzling after last weekend to even give a shite…
