  • TooTRUE marcus..police are alright when they are saving lives or fighting crime ..some of em are tossers in a uniform so of them arent its just a job…but messing up parties when people are in the middle of NOWHERE having a good time and takin equipment i think is a bit harsh ..they should be out on the streets doing some policing …..

At the end of the day though, dont hate the policeman, hate the government that sanctions all the restrictions.

When it comes down to it I believe that the majority of them are just following rules and orders for a job that they want to do because they think it’s going to somehow improve society. I have a lot of respect for someone who wants to work that hard, and also under some fairly crappy conditions, for the benefit of other people.

Although, yes you do get the odd policeman who is a complete wanker and abuses their power, you also get the odd ‘raver’ who is just as bad… never judge someone by the uniform they wear, weather its black and white or a pair of baggy jeans…

I agree that the govnt are ultimately responsible, and that a better govnt would bring the police closer to something i could unequivocally support. But i personally wouldn’t be happy to do the task that our posting policeman is doing. It is a dirty job, without a good moral justification.

I think the ‘only following orders’ argument has been discredited for a good 60 years or so, although i am more than happy to recognise that many police officers have displayed unquestionable courage in the line of duty. It will always be a difficult job…

I also disagree with your last paragraph, i don’t think you can compare the police with ravers, in this way. I expect, and we should surely all expect, higher standards of behaviour from our police than the general public.

The police have a great deal of power, compared with ordinary citizens, and i think they should be of exemplary character, and display standards of morality and behaviour that lead our society, and not just reflect it.

Bottom line, we are decent people, and we haven’t done anything substantial wrong, and we certainly don’t deserve to have the state watching us on a systematic basis… it is Orwellian, pure and simple.:hopeless:

Isn’t this to do with the stages of moral development (was it Kohlberg or someone), whereby the Police need to do or not do things simply because it is the law, whereas those attending parties etc are at the final stage of development in that they can do or not do things based on their own moral judgement.

Im sure someone with a better memory than me will b e along soon to fill in the gaps.

Also, there was a programme on Radio 4 the other day about the parties which took place after the WW2, and the efforts of Government to put a stop to them. So nothing is new. I will put a link up to the listen again cos the bit I heard was interesting. If you changed jitterbuging for raving, it was all the same.

Some peelers might think that there is no way for them to do their job properley while operating at the higher levels in this theory, but I think good coppers do so all the time.

Thats fair enough, I can see your coming from. I guess I’ve been fairly lucky to have pretty much positive run-ins with the police, and I do agree with you that they should be here to set examples and standards, and there are plenty of examples of brutality from the police in cases of riots etc.

I definatly don’t like the way rigs and or other equipment is seized, it feels a little bit like playground attitude to me, but I don’t hate the policeman who is there to make sure no one is purposely causing trouble, or the one who is there to make sure i’m not going to get behind the wheel of my car while off my head, or the one who is there because something has to be done to keep the neighbours happy who are complaning that their children cant sleep…

but yes behaviour is bad on both sides, but surely its not right to leave it to just those with power to set examples, if everyone in this country treat each other with respect then maybe we’d have no problems, but that seems to be a concept too far out of the question…

Hey, i’m clearly old and cynical :hopeless:, but that doesn’t mean i’m wrong!

I hear wot your sayin tho, better behaviour on all sides could produce a virtuous circle.

Maybe the rather refreshing Mr Brown will set a new tone in the country… by actually listening to us. Its a radical and dangerous plan, admittedly, but it can’t be any worse than that smarmy salesman-type who was in b4!

There you go, a cyncism free paragraph! :weee: Taa-Daa!

Mwhaaa :laugh_at: you horny fuker :weee:

Steevo. I’ve been to a party underneath the M1.

The tunnel wasn’t pitch black like your do, but it was nice and big, and the sound and lights were spot on.

You sort of forgot where you were at times, then you would see a huge truck steam past about 30 feet away. :-0

when i first joined this site a couple of weeks ago i was surprised about how how hard it was to get info on free parties . but after reading that post by the mob , i now fully understand why its so secretive . lol
