a few weeks back, a pupil at our school, who is 14, took a dodgy pill that he thought was e, and went to hospital because he “felt ill”. well, it was dealt to him by another pupil who was 15, and this geezer was expelled (the person who took it wasn’t even suspended). he was a violent chav cunt anyway, so noone much cared buuuut….
this week the local paper runs a story “DRUGS PUPIL IS SENT HOME” on the front fuckin page (they must have been stuck, cos it aint nowt new).
now it’s this daily mail type “name and shame” that pisses me off, and the decision by the headteacher to ring up the press and invite them to run a story on it.
the story had everything apart from the actual names – but in a predominantly rural society, everyone was asking and they found out. the incident had long been forgotten by the students, and the pupils involved could live and learn, and the person who took it was given another chance.
not now. does anyone agree that effectively “naming and shaming” a 14 year old is wrong? the kid doesn’t stand a chance now, half the fuckin county know who he is, because the idea of class A drugs being dealt in school (shit shock horror, nowt new really) generated quite a topic of conversation, now the geezers name is everywhere.
and completely immoral by the headteacher to encourage word being spread about the incident, just so he could go on about his “zero tolerance” to drugs and behaviour issues.
i’ll scan in the paper and post it ina minute…
am i over-reacting? i wasn’t mates with either, but ffs they are 14 and 15, and they are on every newspaper “stand” thing for miles around, people know em by now… tory bullshit area too, not a good attitude towards drugs.
also, it’s not as if the area is particularly “good” – hundreds from the school take drugs and people KNOW that. it’s just these kids have been marked by the media.
rant over… :weee:
if there has been no court case and legal permission from a judge to name either person, the mail may well have breached libel law
they didn’t literally name them:
they did just as bad. it’s such a topic of conversation… seriously, “that wanker
i dont agree with the “naming and shaming” thing anyway, however it is done… it’s just front page, and the geezer is 14… any student knows him, and 2000 kids can spread the name piece of piss once the adults suddenly know about it and are “concerned” by it…
