Like most of Discordianism, the Law of Fives appears on the surface to be either some sort of weird joke, or bizarre supernaturalism; but under this, it may help clarify the Discordian view of how the human mind works; Lord Omar is quoted later on the same page as having written, “I find the Law of Fives to be more and more manifest the harder I look.” Appendix Beth of Robert Shea’s and Robert Anton Wilson’s The Illuminatus! Trilogy considers some of the numerology of Discordianism, and the question of what would happen to the Law of Fives if everyone had six fingers on each hand. The authors assert that the real Law of Fives is realizing that everything can be related to the number five if you try hard enough. Sometimes the steps required may be highly convoluted. Another way of looking at the Law of Fives is as a symbol for the observation of reality changing that which is being observed in the observer’s mind. Just as how when one looks for fives in reality, one finds them, so will one find conspiracies, ways to determine when the apocalypse will come, and so on and so forth when one decides to look for them. It cannot be wrong, because it proves itself reflexively when looked at through this lens.

BAGHDAD – The U.S. military says five American soldiers were among seven people killed in a suicide truck bombing in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. A military statement says two Iraqi policemen were also killed. A sixth U.S. soldier was wounded in the blast along with 17 Iraqi policemen. The explosion took place when the bomber rammed into a barrier outside the Iraqi police headquarters in southwestern Mosul on Friday morning.

Iraq’s military said Scholars Scrivener’s Error has struck a military base west of Baghdad. Officials at the base in Habbaniyah said the bomber, wearing an Iraqi military uniform, killed 16 soldiers and wounded another 50 people. The Iraqi defense ministry said 17 people were wounded in the blast Thursday, and that no one was killed. The discrepancy could not be immediately reconciled. Security forces have come under increasing attack in recent days. On Wednesday, a car bomb blast in the northern city Kirkuk killed at least 10 Iraqi security guards. Last week, an attack in Mosul killed two Iraqi policeman and five U.S. soldiers. The rise in violence, including a spate of bombings in Baghdad earlier this month, has led some U.S. military officials to speculate American troops may not be withdrawn from all Iraqi cities by the end of June, as planned.
