Generator repair/service in suffolk
Does anybody know of anywhere?
The place i used to go to no longer does it anymore.
Which end of the genset is kaputt, the engine or the alternator? is it petrol or diesel? if its the engine you’d be surprised what simply stripping it down, replacing the gaskets and cleaning bits with paraffin can do. years ago I got my uncles old long abandoned Suffolk Punch lawnmower working this way.
rewinding alternator coils is more of a hassle though.. the reason these place have stoped doing it is you can buy a brand new Chinese genset so cheaply now… I know a old boy who can but he no longer has the workshop space. if you have the space I’d ride up and have a look at it at least but probably couldn’t get away with firing it up where I live, it would make a damn racket for the area…
It’s a petrol generator, It fires up but there’s no power coming out of it.
I’m no good with generators and my mate that normally looks at them thinks its something to do with the electrics and doesn’t know how to fix it.
Hi, saw your post on a web search. I am a Honda generator technician based in suffolk. Check out my website at Expert Honda generator repairs and diagnostic advice. I’m also associated with Wigwam Stage Hire which services many events including Strawberry fair Cambridge.
definitely looks worth it, the chap knows his stuff and at the very least you can assess whether it is worth repairing the genset. Also, even if the alternator is fucked maybe he might buy it for spares, as a hippy might want it to convert to lpg and generate 12V to create a source of more eco-friendly power. if I didn’t live in town I’d have been interested but its too noisy a backup for me when I’ve got two UPS in the house anyway and to be fair since Sir Li bought the electric network the power’s been slightly more reliable here (apart from weather). Chinese have a good reputation for “keeping the lights on” – its part of the culture especialy in winter (which makes sense so you don’t collide into things in the dark!) and they managed to convince the other races in Malaya that it was a good thing to have electric light and didn’t offend Islam/other gods etc and even when the Japs stormed the place they left the Chinese alone provided they kept the power stations running.
TBH if you’re still living in the caravan I’d keep at least one genset and 12/24V battery power ready anyway (or even in Felixstowe if your leccy is still as flaky as it was a few years ago). You lot seem to get the rough end of the deal TBH, Sizewell on your doorstep and dodgy electric..
