Well, not quite but close enough for me. Pope says big bang and evolution are true, god is not a magician.
Pope reminds Catholics: evolution, Big Bang are true | Ars Technica
I had initially thought he had starting cursing at ageing rockers claiming to be “alternative” types but supporting even more Pro Establishment causes than the Vatican. I attended two Catholic junior schools in the 1970s / early 1980s and at no point was I ever told that there was anything sacreligious about science, mathematics or engineering (there is in fact rather a lot of this mentioned in the Bible).
Nor have any of the Popes in my lifetime spoken out against scientific theories; it appears to be Americans who have the more outlandish theories about evolution and these exist amongst both Protestants and Catholics there (but not so much in Europe).
Its interesting to note how so many top professors and inteliectuals worldwide still have had at least one spell of faith-based education and how that in very intelligent, liberal European countries that faith based schooling still remains popular. I’m not sure it what matters is the actual god(s) the folk worship but the the skills like discipline and deferred gratification taught in religious environments and even then its not so much a matter of avoiding all sin but reducing the harm to yourself and others caused by the sin…
Think it is an almost certainty the pope (and probably god) hates Phil Collins.
It has got to the point where I seriously wonder if “rediscovering my faith” may be a good idea in my later years although I think as it is I’ve just about bargained my level of sin down to an eternity in Purgatory (due to saving a child in a runaway pram from going into a busy road in London in the early 1990s) ; as Hell is by now surely going to be like a 1970s/80s British holiday camp complete with variety show type TV entertainers and the music of the era….
The way the catholic church is right now I doubt many of them will get into heaven either.
I don’t mind anyway, all the cool people are probably in hell.

I get more entertainment value from them than the BBC these days – Radio Maria NL is a genuinely interesting radio station (a bit like BBC World Service crossed with Vatican Radio but in Dutch) and not as preachy as you would expect; at least in comparison to USA religious stations and even ETWN Europe (which is mostly in German) – but it might just be the cultural style; I tuned in to this US online station which had a load ot talkshows about weed and at times they sounded just like an evangelist station but with stoners instead of preachers…
Sometimes I dunno whether to love or hate the Americans, so I go with serious dislike. For being one of the most developed countries on the planet they have a massive amount of looney tunes, most of which seem to be elected officials lol.
to be fair half of the Americans are decent folk and the extreme religion was to some extent a European export but they (in common with a lot of the Asian and Middle East countries) do come across like they’ve got 21st century technology and economic development but are stuck in the 19th century when it comes to social development.
I guess in all cases its because however they run the place has made a ruthless minority very rich and powerful so they are not planning to change until serious trouble (like civil or global war) tips things over (which is unpleasant for all as folk are finding out since the last 15 years or so)
I read some articles about how modern American youth are becoming less crazy with religion but this is countered by their genuine belief that technology and trying to monetize everything by marketing everyones private data will genuinely save the world (I thought I saw some fucked up shit with the first tech bubble in the 1990s but todays stuff seems even more warped sometimes)
the pope is the defacto head of christainity and its great he is saying this but yes many american christians are wacked out as it comes.
the word for them is evangelicals and they claim to live their lifes how the bible says, but yeah they are fucking crazy and their are 100 million of them that is the actual # 🙁

They might not get in to heaven, but they sure could get in to any one of the uk’s Haven holiday parks…..
If they get into the holiday park then they definitely aren’t going to heaven.
Heaven……haven……it’s all the same to them.
