he said not only have they got all the 70s “hard men” criminals who are doing life stretches now reaching their 60s, there is a real increase in pensioners of both genders committing serious crime, particularly domestic violence

Bond villain held over wife death
An actor who starred as a James Bond villain is being questioned by police after his wife was found murdered.
Irvin Allen was arrested after the body of Chamlong Allen, 48, was discovered in a lock-up close to their home in Ladbroke Grove, west London.
Police said a post mortem confirmed she died of multiple stab wounds.
The actor starred as evil henchman Che Che in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and Stromberg Sailor in The Spy Who Loved Me.
Mr Allen, who also took roles in Stanley Kubrick’s Lolita and The Revenge Of The Pink Panther, lived with his wife and three children in a flat in Adair Road.
The 6ft 5in star, now aged in his 60s, had retired to run the Mr Tasty food stall in Portobello Road market.
Police confirmed a man arrested in connection with the death is being held in custody and being questioned by Serious Crime Directorate detectives.

Patient died after care home assault
A WOMAN suffering from a heart and lung condition died after being assaulted by a fellow patient at a Sand-hurst care home.
Yvonne Newell, 62, had suffered from mental health problems since the 60s and had lived at Harts Leap Care Centre in Sandhurst for many years.
An inquest into Mrs Newell’s death at Windsor Guildhall on Thursday heard that a fellow patient, who was on a trial period at the private hospital, had punched Mrs Newell and pulled her hair. The patient had been on one-to-one observation – a member of staff had to be near her for 24 hours a day.
The inquest heard the patient had been left with care assistant Beata Hrycyna while another member of staff was absent. But the patient left the dining room and assaulted Mrs Newell, who was sitting in the doorway to her room nearby.
Elizabeth Luswazi, a mental health nurse, who was also in the dining room, told Berkshire Coroner Peter Bedford she had seen the patient leave and followed her. She said the patient started punching Yvonne in the face.
She said: “When I was nearby she started grabbing her hair. I was trying to take her hands off her head.”
She said Mrs Newell’s face and lips were blue and she had slight bleeding from one nostril.
Other members of staff described helping to prise the patient’s hands from Mrs Newell’s hair and leading her away while other staff tried to resuscitate the injured pensioner.
Pathologist Dr Robert Chapman told the inquest Mrs Newell was suffering from heart disease, emphysema, bronchitis and the start of pneumonia.
In a report he said the extent of her natural disease was that she could have died at any time. But he told the inquest pain, anxiety or physical activity could cause someone with this degree of disease to collapse.
The coroner ruled that Mrs Newell had died of exacerbation of chronic pulmonary disease with an abnormal increase in the size of her heart.
He said: “Her death was probably accelerated by a short time by the anxiety and physical activity suffered in the assault which otherwise did not inflict injuries that would be expected to be fatal.”

* At 9.55pm on 29 November, a 44-year-old Newbury man was walking along the towpath in Butson Close, Newbury, when he passed a man walking four dogs on leads. As he passed, one of the dogs snapped at the victim’s ankle.
The victim was not injured and no damage was caused to his clothing but he remonstrated with the dog owner about the actions of his pet.
The offender then pushed the victim and threatened to push him in the canal.
The offender is white, aged 60-65 and 5ft 8 to 5ft 10. He had slightly balding grey hair and was of stocky build. The dogs are described as black and white terriers, possibly Jack Russells.
