I’ve heard they are setting up dementia units in HMP Norwich – and I expect Holloway and Styal will follow suit for the ladies..

That said these are more for those who have been sent down at a younger age in the 1970s for murder and similar offences and are serving life terms – but this will of course become more and more common in civilised EU nations which do not have the death penalty. In our region (East) the NHS and Police are working together to work out who is “playing the game” with regard to mental health issues and who is genuinely “bad” rather than “mad”, although as you would expect its more the younger generations (particularly 30s/40s) they are investigating as some folks (or their defence solicitors) use mental illness as a defence for blatantly dysfunctional behaviour that they are fully aware is wrong..

I once worked in a ‘demetia’ home in the early 90’s – and my fucking god….

it was horrific!! It wasnt a dementia home at all but a home full of ladies who had been institutionalised in the 1920′ – 30′ – 40’s for thigs such as
    being hysterical
stealing things such as linen or table clothes
being lesbian / having lesbian tendancies
one for trying to travel without a passport

(and usually these young girls were trying to escape from abusive families / try and get a better life / or enjoy them selves but not in a socailly acceptable way)

I had the privilage of reading their origional nursing / doctors reports and it made me cry 😥 as families could ‘get rid’ of difficult girls in such an easy way in those days and they then became so dependant on the institutions it was too unsafe for them themselves to be ‘released’. It also opened my eyes as to the language they could use to descibe behaviour (that has technically been used about females only ) that just would not (and should not ) be socially acceptable these days
I am also sure this has happened to young men in those days but not to the extreme it happened to women – even up until the 80’s

I do have a problem with people ‘playing the game’ as mental illness is nothing to laugh about – esp if you have a chronic enduring illness, and I have seen many many people using it just to get a lighter sentance, I do not really agree with bad genes etc – I feel we are more a product of our environment – and yes, genes do have something to do with it in some cases – but if we looked after our young better we wouldnt have so many fucked up adults – but this is only my opinion

god I’m on my soap box again….. sorry :hopeless:

my uncle works for NHS Mental Health in Essex and he told me there was a “life on mars” attitude in the NHS right up until the 1980s/1990s and many people saw themselves as extensions of the Police and faith groups and as disciplinarians and this was an attitude he tried to change as he moved up the ranks, but even he now says too many people are trying to use a spell in secure hospital to bargain down a sentence for blatant criminal activity (even causing death by careless/dangerous driving!), or after drug use where they stubbornly refuse to self-regulate or stop their problematic drug use.

but ironically the kind of people who are now going into the HMP dementia units particularly Norwich etc are the sort of “1970s hard men” who though it was acceptable to murder a rival in cold blood, do their time and do their crime, and they committed their crime when they were young and knew exactly what they were doing..

even Ronnie Biggs was part of a gang who beat a train driver about the head, it wasn’t as if they just stopped the train and busted open the boxes of money…

As for all the old people whose crimes I have been compiling info of they seem to be in relatively sound mental and physical health TBH – and just wanted to be in control. To be fair the 21st century criminal justice system does seem to be able to distinguish between “crimes” committed due to illness (such as peoples elderly relatives “shoplifting”) and genuine nasties such as domestic violence and harrassment.

the one what killed his former lovers friend and torched his house in 2003 committed the crime literally minutes away from the area of Reading I then lived in.. The fire could easily have spread to other houses in that region.

OK 53 isn’t exactly elderly but a 53 year old crackhead with a prostitute girlfriend in Needham Market FFS?

its not just yong ravers in Norfolk what try to take on the cops!

AN ALARMED lorry driver alerted police after seeing a motorcyclist towing a pink-and-blue floral shopping trolley along the Al48, Lynn magistrates heard on Wednesday.

Police checks showed the motorcyclist’s driving licence had been revoked but when an inspector tried to seize the bike he was punched by the 65-year-old rider, the court was told.

no better South of the Waveney (well at least he didn’t try beating up any coppers)

A pensioner from the Eye area who drove the wrong way up the A14 without his lights on and was in collision with two cars, has had his car impounded.

The 72-year-old was pulled over by police near Woolpit on Thursday after several members of the public reported his Ford Focus driving west in the eastbound carriageway.

He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, taken to Bury St Edmunds police station and deemed unfit for detention before being returned to his family.

The DVLA and the police’s Road Safety Management Unit will be contacted to consider further action including revoking his licence.

just as bad across the North Sea.

a 61 year old man (for reasons unknown) decided to hide up behind a tree, and shoot at a female cyclist, and then make off on his own bike! luckily some schoolkids saw everything, called 112 and looked after the woman, she was taken to hospital and the man was later caught.

    wtf :laugh_at:

exactly! what was most interesting about 112nederland.nl (like an online version of 999 frontline) was how few bike accidents there are in this country, although like anywhere else they happen the bulk of incidents on the 112 site are car crashes and domestic violence..

look out josh, this psycho grandad is right on your doorstep!

A 66-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an attack in Felixstowe.

A 73-year-old man sustained serious injuries in an incident at a property in Exmoor Road around 6.20pm on Saturday.

Police were initially called to reports of a disturbance at the address and reports that a man had been struck with a spade.

Officers attended and found the 73-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to his neck, legs and body and head injuries.

He was taken to Ipswich Hospital where he is today undergoing surgery for his injuries.

The 66-year-old man was detained at the scene and is currently in custody at Ipswich Police Station.

Anyone who was in the Exmoor Road area around 6pm – 6.30pm is asked to call Felixstowe CID on 01473 613500 if they saw anything that may help enquiries into the incident.

bloody hell! thats a right quiet area…. small little bungalows all lined up for the old people to congregate in… its right near where we play football

sounds like a right lunatic – i wonder what it was over

probably fences/gardening, could even have been over pets getting into gardens..

unfortunately I think there will be a big problem with angry old men in their 60s upwards who feel they don’t have anything to lose from prison as they are going to die soon or go in OAP home anyway. its already a issue in the USA where they are the ones what are shooting up abortion clinics or multicultural areas…

then again in East Anglia people below age 45 are genuinely becoming a minority in some villages! lots of young folk seem to go to London or SE England or the North and never come back…

yep i reckon it was over gardening or something lol theyve all got pristine gardens round there

the old bloke what torched a house down the road from where I used to live (with his rival still inside ) has just had a escape plan foiled!
