a funny video and brilliantly made (you don’t normally see advanced colour keying effects on an activists video!) ….
but still can’t help but think (like about 90% of these activist things) its “preaching to the converted” – you and I of course don’t like the war and can see the wider point of the film but TBH it seemed more like a uni rag week stunt to me and almost staged (there weren’t even that many real coppers, many of them were those new “human traffic wardens (PCSOS)”, and the labour party woman / clowns seemed to know one another….
it actually shows Britain in a good light in some respects, particularly how it seemed that the cops, army types and labour party woman took this joke relatively good heartedly.
In many countries (including other EU nations which did not support the war) the people involved would have got 7 bells of shit kicked out of them by the coppers instead of a minor bollocking – I would expect if they did that in the USA they would actually be fired upon even by locals!
I always find these things fall between two stools – too “light” to be a serious film about the war (perhaps they should have shown more of the war footage at the start) but too “right-on” to be a comedy film (which could still have had some good satirical content) – and can’t help but have this suspicion that at least some of the people who make them do so as they are angling for a media job…. (but at the same time I feel there should be a legitimate media outlet for these kinds of films, particularly when they highlight local issues of concern).
OTOH the “chicken” sarge was a classic comedy moment though…
true that
it does say somewhere on their website that they find that people who frequently take an interest in world affairs become hardened by their campaigns, due the the sheer volume of brutality and injustice
by re-introducing humour they are not only sending up the ‘powers that be’… they act as a catalyst for ‘the converted’ to lighten up and more importantly, open up
I saw some of these guys when the world’s No 1 trrrst was in London
laughter is cathartic and unifying
but as ‘studenty’ as it comes accross, they did manage to shut Leeds armed forces recruitment early on a friday
