As Glade does not have a problem with violence, they use the drugs angle, and the recent scare over mephedrone means they can claim “this event will cause a resurgence in the drugs culture of the 1980s/1990s”.
Resurgence? There are more drugs now than ever. I do agree with you though that it is the ravers that fucked up the whole scene. The current “drug culture” is one of total excess, partly the fault of the individuals, partly the media and partly the fault of the authorities. Most people are well aware they can go out on a saturday night, get completly out of it on whatever they can get hold of and know there is someone there to take care of them be it steward bouncer or paramedic. The problem with the youth of today{ i’m only 32 btw} is that they are unable to take responsibility for themselves or anything for that matter. The hedonism of the 90’s has a lot to answer for, its left a legacy
of an almost nihlistic attitude towards life and society in general. Sorry if this makes little sense I’ve been smoking some really top hash tonight and am having trouble articulating my thoughts. The bottom line is we are a nation of feckless, lazy, irresponsible, fuckwits who will always take the easy route and always look for someone/something else to blame. There are always exceptions to this, partyvibe members being one of them.

more drugs but less quality (even the now illegal cathinones are a poor substitute to good MDMA or amfetamine).

I have kept this relatively secret for years because of not wanting to bring hassle to Glade – but was passed info from a frontline NHS worker from a SE England hospital near the original Glade area.
His team had to deal with a significant number of casualties during the successful events of the mid 2000s. As well as the usual overdoses even young babies / children presented to ED – their mothers had abandoned them in tents whilst partying and let them get dehydrated. Actually he said there were a few young men presenting with injuries what may have been related to violence but NHS fix people rather than ask questions. Although no formal complaint was made by the NHS to the Police and Council, the paramedics do of course chat with cops as part of “canteen banter” and things like this shape their views and judgements.
I was going to East Anglia raves in 2007 just before the clampdown and at every other one a Emergency Ambulance had to be called due to either ket related injuries or worse, people being injured in fights. Its not like London where robberies are common, the fights were usually between young men what knew one another due to sexual tension/competition for girls. And all this happened when there were some fucking good drugs, quality MDMA and other party drugs as well as ketamine.. :hopeless:
Definatly less quality drugs wise its a fucking disgrace isnt it? I dont even go out anymore unless its gonna be a good party, cant stand to see the fucking idiots at it anymore. I was a nightclub bouncer on and off for 10 years and a raver for even longer and it has definatly gotten worse. Why?

I think its because society became more tolerant to drugs during the 90s, whilst some of the younger people cherrypicked drugs and hedonism yet rejected “boring/geeky hippy culture” so the townie and drugs culture has merged together with the worst aspects of both.
Hmm interseting, I also think it may have something to do with the blatant dumbing down of our country. People do seem a lot thicker these days.
cant really belive this tbh. made for sad reading that statement from glade.
so its may bank holiday soon though isnt it? 😉

Less quality drugs? don’t buy crappy stimulants off street dealers that’s what i say, that’s the only time i get crap quality.
I think its more complex than that. one of the posters on the NRG1 forum explained it really well but its to do with the difference in stimulants what boost serotonin or dopamine, and the drugs in recent times act more on dopamine. In short, serotonin boosts make peopel blisfully happy (but with risk of a worse comedown) – dopamine can do that as well but it can also increase agression and even make people irrational and violent!
this is a vast oversimplification of some very complex science (which also of course involves human psychology and group dynamics) but it does tie in with what a lot of older ravers in the UK have noticed in recent times.

I understand the whole aggressive thing with dopamine releasers as felt and was a bit aggressive after 2 days on very strong flake cocaine!! not good.
I think stimulants are pretty poor drugs anyway, the quality and availability of amazing psychedelic RCs is excellent. I never felt anything but good feelings after psychedelic usage unlike stimulants where i turn upset, angry etc.
so who here had tickets?
are you gonna invest your refunds on shambala for a big PV cuppa tea and cake meet up ? :group_hug
