the last kingdom by bernard cornwell
History really didnt interest me a lot until I got into this guys books. This ones set in anglo saxon times and tells the story of a saxon brought up by danes. The charachters are well portrayed, some are real but the main character is fictional. It is fiction but with real events and at the end he does a chapter saying what actually happened.
