Sadly this is a big problem in the USA
When I was 7 years old in 1979 a British pop singer called “Bob Geldof” wrote a song called “I don’t like Mondays” which was about a girl of the same age who shot up her school
the problem IMO is that they stil have too many divided tribes in high school
“jocks, nerds, goths/rockers”
it seems worse in USA than in Britain, people refuse to interact with a different tribe apart from with confrontation and violence- and there is too much bullying permitted and then kids are allowed to bring guns to school FFS?
TBH this happens a bit here as well, you have
“swots” – (who are good at class etc)
“nutters” – who like fighting
“chavs/townies” – who dress in sports clothes and do minor crime somtimes wannabe nutters
“goths/rockers” – who like music such as Cure/Nirvana etc.
but there isn’t as much division and bullying (at least there wasn’t in my high school) – everyone partied together
there is danger to all societies though from this anger, a lot of young men are unsure of their identity and status in life now and react by violence – there are a lot of british kids who also are interested in hitler, racism etc and do violence at schools, colleges, on the street and in parties:(
they need something more positive which appeals to their desires but isn’t overly violent (like putting on raves, doing street art, using strength and brains together to make and fix stuff etc)
this happened on an native american reservation, which I would have thought was less influenced by mainstream US high school culture
That culture is as contagious as anthrax and smallpox.
I saw the pics and TBH they looked like any other US high school kids comforting each other after a school shooting…
Dunno if you have much dealings with our own FE colleges here in Britain but they are starting to become a lot like US high school/colleges – a few years ago I flyered an event in SE London’s colleges and there was security guards barriers and bullet-proof glass before you could get in…
although here we don’t quite have as much tribal divisions they exist to an extent and the fashion aspects are now merging. At least its usually only the odd stabbing in our schools and colleges…
At least we can all be secure in the knowledge that the Gun laws are there to help protect all of us, and they won’t be used so that innocent people can be killed in acts of extreme angst.
(I don’t know the font for sarcasm)
peace to all

Teachers are facing increasing levels of violence and abuse in the classroom, driving almost three-quarters to consider leaving the profession, according to a survey published yesterday.
One teacher said she had had to disarm a pupil carrying a loaded gun and described teenagers who were too listless to teach after taking horse tranquillisers at the weekend.
The Association of Teachers and Lecturers survey of 300 secondary school staff found that 46% of respondents said they had suffered from mental health problems because of abusive pupils, with one in seven claiming to have been physically assaulted.
Speaking at the union’s annual conference in Torquay, Elizabeth Greed, who teaches English and religious education at a secondary school in Wiltshire, said pupils were taking ketamine – a powerful anaesthetic used in human and horse surgery – as a recreational drug.
According to a survey by the dance magazine MixMag, use of the drug, which has been popular on the club scene since the early 1990s, has increased fourfold since 2000.
But Mrs Greed said drug use was just one element in poor pupil behaviour: “There is simply no respect for teachers or other professionals any more. I find I spend a lot of my time supporting colleagues who simply cannot cope.”
Another teacher said she had seen members of staff being threatened, locked out of classrooms, spat at and physically assaulted.
Earlier, delegates voted unanimously to oppose the government’s scheme to replace failing inner city schools with privately backed academies.
They said it was a “Trojan horse” which could lead to the end of the state education system and joined MPs and unions calling on the government to halt the programme until it has been properly evaluated.
However, ministers insist it is too early to judge the schools. Last night a spokesman for the Department for Education and Skills said: “Academies cannot charge fees or go private, now or in the future. It is ruled out by primary legislation.”
