Greg Fowler from the Queensland Alcohol and Drug Research and Education Centre has outlined new research at a national conference on the Gold Coast in south-east Queensland.
Mr Fowler says more than 500,000 Australians use ecstasy each year.
“Ecstasy is popular partly because it can be consumed in a tablet form,” he said. “It’s perceived by consumers for that reason as perhaps having less risk than injecting drug use.
Mr Fowler says most ecstasy is imported and a tablet which costs around 25 cents to produce, can be sold for between $30 and $35 in Australia.
Not sure what to say about this – draw your own conclusions.
Not sure what to say about this
strewth mate! thats a lot of pillheads…
seriously thats 2.3% of the population of Australia, which is quite a significant minority..
Not that suprsing though really, i mean they say 250,000 people in england do pills at the weekend, and australias quite a bit bigger.
yer, but population is quite alot smaller than ours, thats what makes it interesting (only a population of 20 million or so). In terms of ratios, the number of pills they consume each weekend is like 750,000 to 1.5 million (depending on which study you believe) brits taking it every Friday/Saturday night.
Oh really? they have a much smaller population? didnt know that, ok well 750,00 is alot then 🙂
safe! land of oz rave scene revival :laugh_at:
bet they get better pills than us
I think everyone does mate… lol
Last I heard there were only 18 million Australians so that’s quite a percentage…
Estimated population of Australia in July 2007
20,434,176 (July 2007 est.)
2006 census 19,855,288
aye so that’s a high percentage alright
but who made the guestimate, and how?
sorry for bein cynical but you know what they say about lies, damn lies and statistics
Not a fffing clue prob based on number of registered births and deaths..
oops lol 😉
bew research from their centre for drug control [not published on the net when i looked for it – should be out sometime soon
ok but they don’t get half a million people walking thru their doors saying hey i take ecstacy.
they question a group of people and then exptrapolate their findings to the whole population
was it quantitative/qualitative? What are the normalisation ratios? if they made their survey in a city then its not gonna be generalisable to the country side etc etc
Just because summats researched doesn’t make it correct
I have doubts about the accuracy of this statement
who did the research, who funded it, what’s the political climate like, what are the government trying to push through at this time?
Unless i read the study myself, and i sincerely doubt i can be arsed i’m just gonna file this under “questionable media hype b*llocks”
