revisiting this thread as I’ve got to build another test system
in the end I got a good deal from Dell for the production system, which has 2 X Samsung SATA drives on hardware RAID
but the original test system limped along with that 10 year old drive…
everyone still think WD or Samsung are the best?
Both are pretty good (the spinpoint samsungs are probably the most reliable) – and WD are always good (I got a raptor as my sys disk, and it’s brilliant – not as fast as a good SCSI LVD drive, but fast nonetheless and a lot faster than any other PATA/SATA drive out there)… I still like Seagates too (my old Hawk 1 GB SCSI lasted for 16 years of serious use and abuse, and AFAIK it is still going strong – I sold it with my old Akai MPC when I upgraded it)…
