“Brain zaps” and “electric shock sensations”Symptoms described as “brain zaps”, “brain shocks,” “brain shivers” or “head shocks” are a withdrawal symptom experienced during discontinuation (or reduction of dose) of antidepressant drugs.[9][10] The symptoms are widely variable in description and of unknown etiology;[10] common descriptions include dizziness, electric shock-like sensations, sweating, nausea, insomnia, tremor, confusion, and vertigo.[9][10] The MedDRA “preferred term” for coding these types of symptoms in adverse drug reaction reports (for use in pharmacovigilance databases such as under the Yellow Card Scheme), is paraesthesia.[11][12]

In a 1997 survey, a “sizable minority” of medical professionals were not confidently aware of the existence of antidepressant withdrawal symptoms.[13] A 2005 review of adverse event reporting showed that descriptions of “electric shocks” from patients on paroxetine had been reported more frequently than some other symptoms.[11]

hello all am new to the forums and this seems the perfect place to ask this question ! its been happening to me for the last 6 yrs although i have taken xtc / mdma for 12 years… and i used to hammer it when i was young..

whilst taking it i am fine…

then about 2-3 days later when i am trying to get to sleep on a night i shut my eyes and cannnottt open them and have what a believe is an anxiety attack it goes on for a good while and i usually have to get up and compose myself before i can go to sleep….

anyone else have this happen to them ??

    many thanks

    Peter

    don’t do mdma mate

    not worth it

I’ve had this quite a few times, It’s just the mdma mate. The more you hit it the more you’ll suffer from these sorts of ‘attacks’. I used to get em all the time, was hitting the stuff every weekend for months. Sometimes i’d get a sort of electric shock style jolt in my head and when sleeping i’d suddenly wake up with a start but be unable to open my eyes and it felt like i couldn’t breath properly. It is from the drugs fella, it’s your bodies way of telling you to take a break. You gotta let your body have a rest now and then otherwise these problems will persist!

All about moderation these days pal!

(I am actually buzzing myself wahey!)

dunno how u could continue to take mdma with these side effects, horrid

you took too much man .. if you eat too much you get fat .. same rules apply :hopeless:

You only get em when you over do it, like anything really. do too much and it’ll fuck you up in the long term!

They are not anxiety attacks mate. Its something called Sleep paralysis. Its not to do with the drugs chemically it is what it does to your brain, when it comes to sleep. Its called Sleep paralysis because many people that suffer from it have a hardcore vivid dream and try and break out of it,. But you cant, you cant open your eyes, you cant lift up your arm, a scream will not even come out.
I get it quite a lot, and I have a strange feeling before I go to sleep that it is going to happen.
Alot of people get it when they stop smoking weed heavily, as when you smoke weed, you deep sleep so rarely dream, then when you stop, you can get it, because you dream when you light sleep.

Dont worry about it look up sleep paralysis online. Drug users get it more because it naffs up your sleep pattern. Bbut kids can even get it. scary as fuck sometimes though.

drug induced sleep paralysis, i would worry about it tbh
