No, I was still in high school then! I only properly started raving from 1991/2 onwards. I did like the music from 1988 onwards.
in reality the scene in the late 80s/early 90s was no better than it was in the late 1990s.
Those 20+ year old documentaries gloss over stuff like the organised crime funding the scene, wide spread money laundering of drugs money into music and media companies, younger folk getting groomed in a variety of ways (underage girls ending up as trophy girlfriends of DJ’s, young lads being recruited into being runners for drugs firms (and many ending up doing much worse sentences than today), a hidden undercurrent of violence and hardman culture…
that said the late 90s party scene was just as much fun but folk were a bit more clued up and less exploitative of one another.
there was also a bit more “optimism” amongst youth in society as jobs were easier to get, we still had paying work in creative industries and the foreigners we all compete with for work today were safely in their own countries and there wasn’t as much immigration or outsourcing.
That is why people were more chilled out/happier back then, not because drugs were that much better. (in fact in the early 90s there were as many dud and poor quality pills and they were more expensive). Good quality MDMA is as good in 2010, 2007 or 1997 as it was in 1991.
