Not used NTL/Virgin since moving out of Reading, but bear in mind the work Dr B is doing on changing the forum layout, letting other mods deal with spammers without also either creating further security holes or locking out legit people (and thus trashing the access even more than NTL have managed to do) isn’t trivial.
We have a high profile on Google, there is also a global economic depression, a rise in campaign / pressure groups of all kinds which will any manner of marketing spam tactics of various kinds and a form of rebound racism where relatively middle class young people from certain foreign countries (where both knowing English and having access to Internet isn’t available to the bulk of the population) feel its legitimate to try and rip of people or even sell illegal hard drugs to “western” style countries as revenge for colonialism/wars etc.
This means that this kind of spam is always going to be a problem, short of us barring out entire countries which is perfectly technically possible but a very last resort tactic on a site like this.
