you know how to open your grx drivers? .. asuming there is an openable program to controll it other than the windows crap thats allready on the comp?

    aint got a clue mate..

if i said to you to update your gfx card drivers / or make sure you have the latest vertion ..would you know how to do it .. as that might be the problem .. if not … some times there is an option for you to rotate the screen in your drivers menu .. thats why i asked if its a nvida gfx card as mine is and it has that option … as yours is a generic one .. i don’t know if you will have that option or not … i have been playing with my comp and the only thing i can find that changese the rotation of the pic on the screen is on my nvida software .. but i will keep haveing a look see if i can find the options in the standard menus and shizz ..

    – Right Click on your desktop
    – Choose Properties
    – Click on the Settings tab
    – Click Advanced
    – Click on Intel Extreme Graphics tab
    – Click on Graphics Properties
    – Click Display Settings
    – UNCHECK “Enable Rotation”
    – Click Apply

    – turn the mointer on the side that is most confortable

The Intel 82945G does have the option> I fixed my girlfriends PC after much hastle (same chipset) by…

    (slightly different to previous instructions)

    Right click on your desktop
    Display properties
    Settings
    Advanced
    Graphics Properties
    Display Properties
    Uncheck “Enable Rotation”

Either that or try ctrl + alt + a direction arrow to see if it works.

can anyone help with a wonky screen?

press ctrl and alt and down arrow that should sort it!!

a question : why is this “feature” even there in the first place?

the only time I’ve heard of a “sideways” monitor was on a obscure 1980s desktop publishing system (where it made sense as a page of paper is usually read landscape rather than portrait)

is this just something a marketing bod thought was a good idea (or maybe it is intended for DTP, or there is a game about what works better with the screen set that way?)

it would be use full if you stuck your moitor to the celing .. thats about it

You may have it as an option (likely press the “advanced” button from the settings tab of the display control panel, and look for something like monitor orientation, or monitor rotation in the special tab for your gfx adapter) where you can select either “landscape” or “portrait” for the screen rotation. You want landscape.

Most gfx adapters have this “feature”, and like GL, I have never been able to work out why? Maybe there’s people who set up a custom desktop so it can be read that way round, and like to have their start button slide a list out from the top left? Seems like an awful lot of effort though, and all the programs would still be sideaways…:you_crazy

That it’s still there is likely down to microsoft, and the bloated code that makes up windows though – been part of the direct x or GDI API code since the year dot (and was put there for some obscure reason that no-one remembers), and gfx card manufacturers just implement it because they can do easily, and it’s part of the WDM certification hoops that need to be jumped through for any driver.
