I agree – it is a very powerful ‘medication’ like alcohol can be for some –

have lost some friends and acquaintances to it – am personally glad I didnt say yes when been offered it – as I think I’d like the ‘high’ from my own experience of prescribed opiates

and the trend is crack being the primary substance and heroin (to come down ) being the secondary – and then getting a physical addiction that fucks em up and so it becomes the primary problem

however saying that –

i do think some sort of legalisation would be a better positive than the recent ‘abstinence’ based model our lovely politicians (who know fuck all about it and sack the scientists who advised) methadone / subutex (maintenance – on the whole) isnt working as a maintenance model – shooting galleries are being piloted – would be interesting to see their result
I think some people are in the need of ‘maintenance’ and not abstinence – so why waste their time and effort (money) of the NHS by constantly ‘forcing / colluding’ clients in to detox?
