got a proper nasty hiss from my system … it comes from the actual amp/stack system i have … i not untanged all the wires yet to reduce electro magnetic interfearance … but i dont think that’s gonna help too much as ther not that tangled .. any think else i can do?

try turning the amp up without any signal leads connected, if the hiss is still there its unfortunately due to the quality of the components used in the amp

otherwise, reconnect the signal leads one by one. if one of these introduces the hiss then you know which piece of equipment is causing it

also keep audio signal leads away from mains cables and in particular such things as laptop power supplies, IPOD/mobile phone chargers – these contain circuits what create a lot of unwanted noise – and this noise easily finds its way into the unbalanced audio circuits used in home hi fi…

done all that other than soughting the leads out .. but tbh there’s not much i can improve in that area as they are allreay pretty neet (they all go staite from the system to the socket with not much excsess wire)..
the amp is off a midi system .. but i never noticed this hiss b4 .. it’s proper confused me and anoyed me as i can hear it over loud music …

well both .. it’s a hiss coming from my amp .. and a buzz from my mixer … unless i turn it down to next to zero gain … the mixer needs replacing for many reasons .. i have a spare but need to replace the crossfader and up faders on it ..but will do that in the next few weeks … it’s the amp hiss that is unfixable other than getting a new amp as far as i can work out 😥

and its still hissing if you take out the phono cable between the amp + mixer?

turntables grounded into the mixer correctly?

if you never had this before but have got it now unfortunately this is potentially a circuit level problem, either a failed component such as a capacitor a “dry joint” on a soldered connection.

This “dry joint” turns a electric conductor into a semiconductor – where it picks up all the electronic interference that is always in the air from your computer, broadband lines etc.. the hiss is likely to be this or even from any electronic displays the midi system may have…

sadly cheap midi system components are prone to this. there was a time I would have tried to fix something like this but its a lot of effort when you can get a new amp for about £60 or so from Richer Sounds (there is one in Romford)

it’s like a mini stack system .. seperat components .. but built to plug into each other and no other machines … it’s actualy pretty nice .. but quite old … so time may have just taken it’s toll on the insides and something has degenerated
