Unfortunately this is happening across Europe as the penalties for the good stuff (MDMA) are often higher than for the crap (but not deadly) stuff (cathinones, piperazines etc)

The economic depression means there are less / smaller imports of pills but still a similar amount of border force / douane and they are getting smarter, many are our age now and grew up with the rave scene and know the tricks. I know of a few ravers who crossed the line and nearly did so myself years ago. Even if their numbers are being slashed that can make frontline officers more ruthless. ironically this means people who depend on drugs for their main income are now bringing in coke and heroin (which bring more money) due to the factors of “better be hanged for a sheep than a lamb” – or ketamine as it has a lower classification but brings in more cash. And the feds see this and think the drugs scene is becoming worse and clamp down on it more.

Also the EU-wide clampdown on EDM events makes this worse. Even big cities like London and Dublin have way less than before, Holland still has loads but its not trivial getting drugs into them with the “grote controle” at the front of many. Putting on a EDM event in a club attracts coppers no matter what country you are in these days. Dealers don’t want to be stuck with 100 pills they can’t sell and very few people would sit in their bedroom alone or on the internet and do decent MDMA but there are now many more drugs which lend themselves better to solitary use (I do not think its a good or healthy thing to do regularly but its more and more common).

There are no easy solutions – other than if you do get lucky don’t be greedy and keep a few back for later. Perhaps a relative lack of MDMA might not be such a bad thing as you will enjoy it more when you do get it and be at less risk of becoming (psychologically) addicted.

this is 100% spot on but in a lot of areas of Europe there are way less of these events and also way less dealers. I did do a bit of background research to see what the EDM scene was like in his country but it appears to have diminished a lot.

my own region of England went from having loads to zero tolerance with the space of a couple of years after just a handful of “bad news” incidents as the cost of dealing with the aftermath wiped out the gain made from tolerating nightlife.
