Do you mean that Chantal’s not here because of some members pushed her out?

Chantal did not like the jokes about rape and casual sexism, but I think a bigger reason was a larger workload, the .org site obviously being full of drug addicts actively wanting to keep their habits rather than harm reduction (like those Americans who don’t even care that the normal donut munching cops can track them, let alone NSA) and I got the impression she wanted to spend more time with her partner and the cat. Also the things like the cookies/trackers that share data for the ads can also be used by those who know to work out what people get up to outside work.

The girls in the housing co-op often don’t like going online for those reasons and they were surprised that I would even got there and fix stuff for free and that I was supportive of a lot of environment friendly things rather than working for companies making spy equipment or atomic bombs or writing bugs/viruses, as that is the impression they get of engineers (and there are a lot of engineering companies on this area).

Chantal works in a bigger organisation where there is a lot of competition for work/positions and colleagues often report stuff found online to managers (in fact most younger people in Britain have no problem in reporting to authorities anything they don’t like, whereas in the 1980s very few youths would do this).

I don’t think .org is that bad, but I’m just very carefull where and when I open it up, and if anybody p*ss me off I message them nicely <3

And with Chantal, I’m glad it wasn’t member who made her leave

TBH the only problems we have are with the Asian marketing students, I was really tempted to send to that Indonesian girl the other religious version of the happy wanderer song those old nuns and monks had written (in about 2009!) which has verses in NL, ID, PH and EN which are about living in peace with everyone from every religion, in spite of the fact that they were situated in the bit of SE Asia where everyone does just that, and it was the sort of thing my mum and dad were taught when there was still colonialism…

I’ve always been told that, we are all equal and that I should never think I was better than someone else.

I was raised by my grandparents and no matter how hard I tried it was just never good enough, was always someone who was better, so pride in what i was doing was never an option.

          It never goes away

This is a lot like Asian parents (and grandparents, although I never have met those on my fathers side of the family as he got disowned too for not having his arranged marriage and meeting someone from another culture and type of Christianity, and to find them I’d have to learn one of the most difficult Chinese dialects).

They are not as harsh as often thought but do get obsessed with education and competitiveness (Singapore is notorious for this) and so do Roman Catholics, and Dad was Chinese and and sent to a Roman Catholic 6th form (age 16-18) in Singapore (this would have been similar to the gymnasium in Europe but with more religion, he was refereed to as “Brother” there, I noticed this on some collection of stamps I had inherited from him). I had always wondered why he had this fascination with SG when he was born and grew up about 500km away in Penang! But in the 1970s he did party for quite a while and when he worked as some kind of technician for the health authority somehow got away with diverting a load of various pills when we lived in this shared house which was more like a housing co-op. He kept these in a wooden cabinet he had built himself, and explained it away as “medicines” and that “his friends were not feeling well” (they certainly felt better after taking them, as there seemed to be a lot of singing and playing of guitars :laugh_at: )

So I can understand why the young Asians of today behave in certain ways, though I think its a shame they don’t seem to want to do anything other than try and sell items (some of which aren’t even sold outside their countries or even if legitimate would be too much hassle to import in small quantities and would get the importing company also investigated by our Border Force as they think its cover cargo for drugs…)

I not long found this place, just haven’t posted here yet. 😉

Is there anything on the first or second pv forum about the newer ones as I’ve not seen anything and only figured this place out by chance. Only thing I’ve seen is a “new forum” post, but actually on one of the new forums.

its a bit like the Android UI, which took me a fair while to work out where basic things are (I went from mistrusting the whole thing to ending up with three small Android based devices, though not used for any security or business critical tasks). I’ve recently started filling googles logs up with Catholic prayers in Dutch and even they lyrics of some Christian music, which should confuse them even more, but there are reasons for it.

listening to Radio Maria NL is a good way to keep up with the language if you did go to Catholic school, as they speak a bit slower, because the 675 KHz signal on AM is noisy, you don’t have to put up with the crappy chart music Hilversum play and the dial-a-prayer seems to be popular with older people who are a bit slower with their reactions – though the granny ladies are usually fairly sharp and can remember more of the rosary than I ever could, (its usually the old padres they bring in to the studio at Den Bosch who miss their cues, perhaps they shouldn’t drink so much gin before they go on air ) They even reverse the order of the rosary compared to English! The tech they use is impressive, it can handle live incoming audio from 2 x 7 KHz ISDN circuits (or normal KPN line at 3 KHz), some of the reports/sermons are remotes from the churches/monasteries/convents but unlike a UK telephone hybrid there isn’t hum/noise/echo.

There is the usual Dutch style soundprocessing but not as hard as Hilversum, and smart use of noise gates and compressors on microphone and tel hybrid circuits so that those who aren’t sound engineers still sound good, They’ve even got a soundcloud account with downloads enabled (though the music is taken out for copyright reasons) I heard a mention of dateq (Dateq) – I get the impression they have built (and maybe donated) some custom kit for them. Also they have managed to keep the running costs down to €36 000 per year including using Lopik TX (they have turned the power down to 60 000 W (their Agentschap Telecom license allows 120 000 W) yet still have a decent enough signal in England!. Given that most of their volunteers are age 50+ (its run like a community station but there are no adverts or council funding) and they set up the station when supposedly religion is on the decline in NL and the economic depression has started, its impressive what these oldsters have done (its not even as heavy on the preaching as most religious stations).

As for the Android kit, and some points I had to stop myself from asking my younger staff in the office “how do]you het these bloody things to work correctly?” which would have made me look even more like “an old uncle / grandad” than listening to an AM radio :laugh_at:

Well I’m glad you have now then <3

There is a notice but that’s as far as I want to go with announcing the change. People can find out for themselves, I think it’s better that way. All the old theads and links on PVR remain leading the new homes anyway so there are plenty of ways to get there.

In terms of traffic although it might not seem that way PVR has been seeing as many pageviews and visits as it was before the first split and PV 50% of that same figure and rising fast which I’m hoping will hold true for the new sites too…

Welcome to Rave Forum. Anyway I seem to asking this a lot lately but what area are you in? 🙂

Bit slow to find this thread but in good time really as I’m +1 for the mods

Does TankGirl not visit the site at all any more?! Now I feel guilty because I was one of the people who upset her with my jokes, not that I ever directed anything at her and certainly didn’t intend to upset her, just a clash in sense of humour is all it was. Shame because she was the first member of PVR I actually met in real life too and we got on really well.
