EDC HAS A LARGER POLICE PRESENCE THAN ANY OTHER EVENT IN AMERICA, BAR NONE. Every single officer on the Las Vegas Metro Police force is on duty during EDC, and more than 1/2 of them are at the event. You can’t look in any direction at any time while on the grounds at EDC without seeing a pair (yes, a PAIR – that means TWO) of police officers in full uniform within 50 feet of you.
Wow, that sounds like an awesome rave dude! Police everywhere you look. Just what I like when I’m off my face! lol
Even here at smaller events we might just see a bobby or two on the doors at the start (who if its a smaller town event usually get redeployed to deal with the pissheads as they are the night time economy unit). TBH they are only interested in stopping peopel who are so fucked they are a danger to others and themselves, medium level dealers who might start turf wars and also preventing DUI which kills way more people than drugs.
There are both uniform and undercover cops in Netherlands but they are more discreet. The undercover ones are a mixture of pretty blond women and tattooed “muscle mary” and are only deployed to get young dealers of both genders and sexualities. Even then the penalty is confiscation of profits and remaining drugs and a caution rather than prison unless the pills are dangerous stuff like PMA.

Also, if you want to flame somebody, don’t use quotes from Ace Ventura: Pet Detective as it will make you seem like a twat!
I thought he was just “speaking American”.
TBH I don’t care two shits if he agrees with me or not, but trying to deny the 15 year old girl died even after widespread international reporting a Court judgment and a payment to her famly by the promoters is insulting to her memory and her family.
Even if she “only” got ill after leaving the premises that is irrelevant worldwide, the licensing authorities would take into account the fact she attended the music event. a few days ago I went through 20MB of data from my own Council about the night time economy and incidents at licensed premises. it wasn’t very interesting reading at all but I found no evidence of overreaction or excessive control, merely carefully gathered facts which the Council, Police and Health authorities had painstakingly worked together over months to gather, and all 12 evidence documents were shared to the public with nothing hidden.
Even then the document said that there is a right for people to have such events.
In Denmark (just over the North sea) they safely have a similarly large festival, most of it free, spread across several locations and only a few crowns to enter if there is an entry cost. 800 volunteers keep everyone safe, the Police only stay on the sidelines in case there is a genuine emergency.
Here is how, hypothetically speaking, I could transport goods from a state outside CONUS through US Customs… and there wouldn’t be a fucking thing the Feds could do about it.
A) Label the package as “Property of Mr President. Open this and you’ll be counting polar bears in Alaksa for the rest of your life.”
Then start diplomatic relations as a gambling advisor to one of the Native American states.
Label the package again with “Diplomatic matereials – Searches will cause diplomatic incidents”.
Finally, a little war paint and feathers and I’m all set to get on the plane.
It probably wouldn’t work, but if it did then it would keep working.

That’s SO crazy that it might just work!
Well, “dip” bags are traditionally used for smuggling by nation states (including the USA, of course).
The point about dip bags is – diplomatic immunity. Even if you’re caught red-handed, you can’t be charged (just Persona Non Gratis and put on the next plane home).
The TRICKY part is getting recognised diplomatic status in the first place.
Amen. You shouldn’t even have an opinion about the whole matter. On top of it being an awesome time for fun, drinking, half naked women, and of course chemical party favors, it helps out the economy of the place I live and my wife bartends the event and tells me about all the stuff I cannot remember. Always seem to think that I have an awesome time. Let me guess high capacity “assault” rifles are the reason people die too. Not the dumbass thats pulling trigger with a backpack full of preload magazines. If you believe that then check out the ballistic reports of a M14 and an Ar15. The M14 would not be banned as a assault rifle but will do a whole lot more damage. Just saying.
why should anyone be denied a right to express their opinion? especially as an incident in once country impacts whether or not events get tolerated in others. Denying people their freedom to express opinions is something that repressive type with something to hide usually do, and goes against the liberal freedom and tolerance that the USA and Europe supposedly champion.
I don’t disagree that EDC is beneficial to the local economy in the short term otherwise it would never be allowed to happen, similarly to England’s Glastonbury festival or the pubs and clubs in my own local town. However all these events have had various crowd safety issues which have had to be dealt with for them to continue.
in the same way that even in rural areas worldwide its rare to let a child handle a firearm until they are around 10 or 11, by which time they should know the difference between right and wrong, have some respect for life and also safety awareness, its risky to let very young teenagers attend large rave events as they might be inclined to consume more drugs or booze than they should, even though both are relatively harmless. Even then smaller events in local towns can safely accomodate a younger crowd without too many incidents.
The wider discussion was about the risks of smuggling controlled drugs across borders, and a positive suggestion that the Canadians should have a similar event in their country (why not?) as well as EDC in the USA (bearing in mind also that many newer chemical drugs are not controlled substances in Canada anyway ) , which are hardly “anti fun” comments…

… I think the argument (from dictators and one party state enthusiasts) goes that if certain people voice certain opinions, the result is mass mayhem and anarchy.
It’s a bit like the butterflies flapping their wings and causing hurricanes. It gives you an excuse to stomp on butterflies.
I’m not saying I agree with their argument, I’m just presenting my analysis of it.
