Ok, ive got a 500ml bag of 500mg of hydromorphone in .9% sodium chloride to be used with a bolus. Let’s say the bolus or whateve has disappeared…in what ways can the product be used besides IV? Can it be used (like it is) for IM, oral, and rectal? Also, out of pure curiosity, what is the street price? (def not letting this awesomeness leave my hands)
I am not a doctor or healthcare professional but I work as a telecoms/IT tech for a medium size healthcare company; in my country and most of Europe this sort of preparation is used with a complex device called a syringe driver, (it uses a 6LF22 9V alkaline battery, I have to keep a stock of these batteries for the nurses as a run down battery means the patients do not get their meds. However if the device can operate with this relatively low power battery it hints that it dispenses a very small but constant dose).
It may well be called a bolus in your bit of the world but strictly that refers to an obsolete method of dispensing (in a similar way to how a “reorder signal” in telecoms is (mis)used in modern terminology to signal line conditions where there would be no point in reordering (redialling) for that circuit, such as a wrong number or permanent disconnected circuit)
it probably could be diverted or processed for recreational use (here such a preparation is kept behind 2 x high security locked enclosures with CCTV pointing to them and is normally only used for elderly/frail people (80-100+ age)) ; getting it wrong presents a very large risk of gross (and potentially fatal) OD. It would have a street value but that depends on the market in your country and region and if the healthcare organisations in your country are leaving substances like that “lying around” it might not be all that much TBH.
That is as much as I can tell you, I genuinely don’t know any more about how the other kit works, if I asked at work people would (quite rightly) get suspicious, I could also end up with feds to my door (they will work with European cops in cases where a young person is harmed), this site could be censored or closed, and my workplace would get put on investigation that would risk its reputation, the livelihoods of 200 people and inconvenience 150 patients.
I’ll offer you £500 for it rightbnow
That post is some months ago; he’s either found somewhere to offload it (TBH in his country I wouldn’t be surprised if another hospital would buy it cheap to add to the stock) or been nicked. It wouldn’t be easy to send opiates in this bulky form across borders (probably why they are prepared like that). I susbsequently noticed at work a chart about the dosage levels for these bags – what worried me is that I thought they would be in milligrams but many were in micrograms. There are warning notices everywhere in the nurses office about these unit differences and against overdose risks.
I’ve only seen one in action (as I only am allowed in residents rooms if there is a valid reason such as providing a TV-set , telephone or other audio visual gadget they might require, or to check electrical safety); it was hooked up to an old granny lady who I’ve never seen outside of her room (probably not surprising with the amount they give her!).
