Any thoughts on this?
Is Ibiza just too commercial and too filled with shallow rich sunglass wearing drunks? OR is it still the party island it used to be where nearly everyone is high and very much into the dj and music…..
I’ve never been there myself but I recommend having a look at this documentary on Ibiza 17 years ago…

Haven’t watched this yet but it’s seems worth a look…
I haven’t been myself, but the good parties still go on away from the commercial areas.
A few friends of mine went and as they were not your typical beer boy shirt wearing football hooligan they got friendly with some locals who introduced them to the underground parties that go off in the more remote areas.
So yeah, I suppose it is worth it if you can find that side of it. Personally I’d hate to visit Manumission, Pascha, Space etc.
I think Ibiza has unfortunately been taken over by “chav culture” and binge drinking apart from the areas Biotech mentioned – but as I’ve said many a time “chavs” are merely the old skool rave fashions minus the happiness and idealism.
IMO its also one of the remaining parts of the “British Empire”, with attendant social, racial tensions and economic inequalities at the sidelines. Up to you whether you wish to participate in this.
wasn’t the relaxed licensing atmosphere in Ibiza the inspiration for the British rave scene in the late 80s?
Apparently so. Was it Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold and the rest of that crowd that brought it back with them.
Pete Tong has released some great stuff on his label FFRR, but Paul Oakenfold & Danny Rampling. How far up your own arse can you actually get before suffocating or turning inside out?
I was in Ibiza in 2004 with acidfairy and had a great time … we stayed just on the edge of Playa Den Bossa and it is definetly better than San An …. we went through there for the day and left within 30mins is a horrible place!
Playa Den Bossa is a really nice part of Ibiza but you still have to option of a good party scene.
Acidfairy hired a car so we saw some sights of the island.. I would go back in a shot and I am def not the beer swigging football t-shirt wearing hooligan type!
:horay: :bounce_m: :bounce_m: :horay:
san an is dying on it’s feet.. the superclubs are desperately giving away free tickets to nights that used to cost £40 – £50 as the only people attracted to that resort your typical english twats
like many spanish resorts it’s become a victim of it’s own success
but i’m sure, like anywhere, there are great local people and some great parties
i’d say go and see… flights are dirt cheap at the moment
on my way in just under 4 weeks! booked the hotel and flights, not too expensive considering i am flying from zurich….looking forward to a great time. hope to find some of the ‘off the beaten path’ party spots but really can’t miss carl cox/dj vibe (an old progressive fav of mine from a year spent in portugal) at space and sasha with cattaneo at pacha.
i know it’ll be really commercial but these guys are worth the effort.

otherwise, i will be keeping my distance from the ‘chavs’ and making sure to invest my energies on chemical intake :bounce_m: :crazy_fre :mobile_ph
Be careful over there when trying to get chemicals the Ibiza Police do not take kindly to the fact that their island has become known as the party place that it is with the drug problems to follow.
They are really hard on anyone caught with anything and like to make examples of tourists that come over thinking that they can get away with anything.
Just a friendly warning to watch your back…

I’ve just spotted a link to the film…
I’d love to go to Ibiza and check it out. 😀
ibiza is amazing been twice, last year and earlier this year, first year it was good like, but i was young and inexperienced so i ended up jsut getting smahed every night and got my shoes nicked after i passed out on a beach! lol
second time round knew what to expect, the best lot to fall in with are the pr’s (the annoing assholes that come up to you 100 times a night and tell you to come drink in whatever bar there working for) but if your mates with em its a great way to find out about more private and more drug orientated partys. ALTHOUGH the clubs are still amazing and you are guaranteed to have a great time either way never had any trouble x

true, to them its a bit like being invaded/colonised by foreigners (cops always have a nationalist element to them wherever you go)
they also work with our authorities (its must be a nice “busmans holiday” for a bobby)
back in the 90s a “friend of a friend” was serving up in both the UK and Ibiza…
one day he was walking off down an alleyway and he found himself being rugbytackled to the ground by a large English bloke who rammed the barrel of a Smith and Wesson .357 J-frame revolver into his chest.
He then pulled out his badge and card
“I’m Detective Sargeant ******, Scotland Yard, You’re nicked”
Having handcuffed him the cop then smiled and said
“we’ve been following you for ages in both the UK and Spain. Just be glad I nicked you and not the “locals”, they would have actually pulled the trigger”
The dealer got 5 years in the end, of which he served 1 year in a shitty Spanish prison and the in a UK slammer. He didn’t do the whole five (about 18-20 months in total) but it wasn’t the best end to a holiday..
I’m sure Ibiza is a wonderful place to spend your vacation..
But we have had 3 cases of young females being raped on their vacation there, and that’s just this summer..
And the police in Ibiza are nothing worth in situations like this..
So if your going,be careful and stay together with your friend..
Just look out for each other :group_hug
