IT’S DRIVING ME INSANE
also 4 people were arrested at Lakenheath anti nuclear protest for breach of bail (nothing else) – so presumably bail conditions are now being used to stop people protesting (as it wasn’t mentioned that they were involved in any other crimes)
this didn’t get reported as widely as it wasn’t London….
And yes people only care when it involves money these days, and the progressive campaign groups are all fragemented (ironically because they allow so much endless unresolved debate about ways forward they all get divided and conquered)
the last major protest I remember being supported (to an extent) by “normal people” was the 2000 fuel protest – again that was about money..
I also have a nasty feeling though that last time people rioted or took part in any effective sort of dissent there was way less affordable drugs and alcohol at least in the quantitys most people do them nowadays.
Also people have a lot of “false freedoms” where you can get away with binge drinking or even a fair level of drug use, or look at “extreme stuff” (i.e porn, videos of people getting hurt.killed etc) online – provided you don’t do anything too subversive otherwise – this dumbs a lot of people down and makes them comply (bread and circuses).
it will take people losing their “normal” outlets such as shite pubs and clubs (which I can see happening in some areas) before some realise how bad things have got.
And to be fair there are even ways of making positive change and communities without rioting but hardly anyone seems to be bothered about even doing this..
i agree
i think its because there is no united banner under which people like us stand
theres no major movement for us, and if someone tried to set one up, i’ve a feeling it would be discreditted by the media and the government very quickly, if not something more sinister
also the british way, grit our teeth and get on with it. not like other european countries – where if they dont like something they unite and change it.
well people did protest about some Post office in Stow being closed
which is fair enough but it seems that these “middle england” protests tend to get “allowed to happen” yet the same people moan about anti-nuclear protestors or ravers or festivals…
