A British man involved in the kidnap and torture of a Lancashire businessman has been arrested in India after almost five years on the run.
Ajay Kaushal, 50, was detained in Goa on Monday by police investigating the death of a man he was travelling with.
Kaushal failed to appear at his British trial in January 2005 and was sentenced to 15 years in his absence.
Lancashire Police are liaising with the Indian authorities in a bid to bring him back to serve his sentence.

The suspect has died in prison in Goa.
One of Britain’s most wanted fugitives, who was arrested last year in the Indian resort state of Goa, has died after falling ill, a prison official said Tuesday.
R. K. Satardekar, the superintendent of Sada jail in south Goa, said Ajay Kaushal had failed to respond to treatment after he was taken to Goa Medical College on Monday night.
Kaushal, 50, fled Britain before he was due to go on trial in January 2005 in connection with the violent kidnapping and torture of a businessman in northwest England.
IMO karma – although diabetes claims many Asians in their middle years the man did commit a violent crime, reinforced negative stereotypes of Asians worldwide, eluded justice in England to go on a holiday, and then caused the death of another man..
ironically he’d probably have got as good treatment in Strangeways (or whatever its called today) as any other patient in the NHS, and maybe even early release…
lucky to die
there is speculation he commited suicide although the Indian prison service denies it. I expect indian prison isn’t quite as plush as “Holiday Bay” though :laugh_at:
At least British taxpayers won’t have to spend money on this muppet now..
