The Institute for Electronic Artists return to Edinburgh with a new monthly live showcase free for all fans of new talent and electronica.

From 9pm at The Left Bank, Guthrie Street, you can catch the debut with four stunning artists, Ives, Operator, Dee Mond and Junior Lazarou.

    Ives

Ives are Iain Foxwell and Brian Leslie. They have just completed their second release titled, ‘Who Wants a Soul When You Got Image’. And at present, are gigging and promoting the new album. So far the reaction from gig-goers, the press and radio has been positive. The first review of the new album was given by the well-known Scottish publication Is This Music?. The review gave the album a rare 5 out of 5 rating. With the track ‘M8’ being featured on the cover CD.

Previously the band has had airplay for tracks, from both albums, on Radio 1 (Regional), Radio Scotland, Xfm Scotland and Radio Magnetic. They have been in session on Vic Galloways (Radio Scotland) Air Show. Featured and interviewed on Jim Gellatlys (Xfm) Beatscene. In addition one of the tracks from the first album was placed in Stuart McHughs (Radio Magnetic) top 20 for the year 2003.

Live highlights have included playing to a packed Soundhaus (Glasgow) on Mayday 05, headlining the Glasgow Barfly and playing the T Break showcase as King Tuts.

    Operator

Having recently completed a showcase at the “Dialogues” festival with a series of Rune Grammofon artists, Operator continues to exude a lack of remorse in terrifying mortals with his sporadic and violent frequency assaults. You may have seen him perform electronic sets with Jamie Liddel (Warp Records), Mylo (Breastfed), Maurice Fulton (MU, Output records), Neil Landstrumm (Peacefrog, Scandinavia, Tresor), Beans (Anti Pop Consortium & Warp Records), Hexstatic (Ninja Tune) if not, live in the knowledge that your life will be meaningless and devoid of good looking people.

He’ll be following the release of his previous 2 records, “OS1.1” Benbecula Records 2004 and “Exemption Song” Scandinavia Records 2005, with a 12” on Glasgow’s Mighty Robot Recordings.

Using special battle records made exclusively for Pyrate.

Music, Dee Mond creates a unique show that utilises decks and tech to grab and hold your attention. Previous guest sets at: Dogma, React, Split, Urban-Niche and Foozle.

    Junior Lazarou

a.k.a. DJ Mitchell became addicted to underground dance music in 1989 when he stumbled into an afterhours rave at Glastonbury (literally!).
He then progressed onto using vinyl on a regular basis as he got into smoking beats & dropping basslines.

By 1990 he found himself being asked to DJ on a regular basis at clubs, raves & outdoor parties. He continued to do so throughout the 90’s, until a friend exposed him to the pleasures of HARDWARE, telling him to “try this”. It was the infamous ROLAND 303 & 808! By 2000 he was a habitual user.

Finding himself jacking out tracks in a ghettotech style under the guise “ELECTRIC BLUE”, he was soon playing on the same bill as the likes of DJ GODFATHER, JIM MASTERS, SAMUEL L SESSIONS, DJ FUNK, CJ BOLLAND, VALENTINO KANZYANI, MARCO BAILEY, SUBURBAN KNIGHT, CHRISTIAN VALERA, OLIVER HO, PEACE DIVISION & PERCY X.

In 2003 the purchase of more hardware led to the birth of JUNIOR LAZAROU, the b-st-rd son of Papa Lazarou (The League of Gentlemen).

Junior Lazarou’s current sound draws together influences from the last three decades, as he samples punk, reggae, ska, disco, hip hop & electro, fusing them with techno, electrotek, tekfunk, tech-house, techpunk & acid , creating a twisted & jackin’ funked up vibe on the dancefloors at clubs, events & festivals like DIGITAL, PILLBOX, ROTATION, MUSOTICA, PALGOWAN fest, MAWBRAY fest, KUBE, the UNIT, BLACKEDOUT, G8crashers, TECHMAS, REACT, K-OS SOCIALS.

His first release is on INTONATION recordings, and is titled “RIDE IT”.
