Ok so I had a dry cough (still have it) so I went and just asked the chemist for something which, as expected, ended up being robitussin. Robitussin for dry-coughs contains DXM (dextromethophan hydrobromide) which is psychedelic and many people have used it for that purpose but while I’ve only been usuing the proper dosages and only taken 2 today, I feel a bit off colour so I had a look to see if it could be down to an interaction with something I use or have used recently.

Firstly stims are a bad idea with DXM which can lead to high blood pressure and worse (strokes, brain hemorrhages….) so this is possibly the cause. While I’ve taken no amphetamines recently, some phenidates and methiopropamine has been used (4f-MPH today) and I’m inclined to believe this is the root of the problem, so I’ll be doing no more of either today.

While researching this I found this page on erowid which lists interactions between most classes of drugs and if you’re planning on using DXM I’d strongly recommend reading it.

hope you get better soon – I did wonder if you had taken one of the mixtures of DXM plus something else (such as one version of Actifed) which is a mildly stimulant nasal decongestant making the side effects worse although Robitussin appears to be just DXM plus the usual sweeteners, distilled water and alcohol.

Its a curious substance (not unlike ketamine in some respects) but might have some stimulant-like properties on its own; certainly I noticed some years ago when I did a fair bit of K on top of amfetamine I started going into tachycardia and thinking “fuck! my goose is surely cooked now!” and was getting ready to walk out of the door of my friends house with 999 already entered into my mobile (the idea being I’d press ‘send’ just before I thought I was going to hit the deck; that way even if the nines operators just heard a load of noise which sounded like someone falling over that there’d be at least some attempt to trace the location and send round the blue light services; but my friends wouldn’t have to worry about being busted as to bystanders it would simply appear thatr I had taken ill in the street. Thankfully these rough feelings soon subsided and I was back in action for the rest of that night…

I’ve had pure DXM in the past (also I make sure there’s no unwanted crap in the medicines I use if I plan on tripping….)and it can be extreme. Not that much fun imo but I can see sales of medicines like this going through the roof now.
