I recorded a meeting earlier because I knew the people concerned were trying to lie thier way out of a situation, one happened to be an ex copper.
They said what I know they deny when later asked so it served its purpose. Hopefully it wont come to using the tape to back me up and the facts will stand for them selves when their supperiors get onto them.
But was it illegal to record the interview? I didn’t tell them btw
I’m not a legal expert but I’m fairly certain that its OK provided its not done to harrass anybody or misrepresent them (these are separate crimes in themselves), and is accepted if there is a “greater good” to society (or even a private organisation) by using the recording to expose wrongdoing.
Found this on the net. The guy says he has a Criminology Major.
It is perfectly legal to record a conversation that you are involved in and that recording will be admissible in court.
These people do not know what they are talking about when they are talking about consent and warrants.
You do NOT need the other party’s consent. Because they are engaged in a conversation with you, they have exhibited a limited expectation of privacy. Unless you are bound by a confidentiality agreement which you have signed, you are not obligated to keep secret anything that occurred in the conversation, so why not record it? This is how the courts see it.
