I personally think that although this is a massive tragedy it should not be used as a campaign against nuclear power. It is true that when an accident does happen it is tragic, but given the frequency of these accidents is very rare when you think how many nuclear stations there are on the globe. The result is horrific but does the globe less harm than burning fossil fuels. Nuclear accidents can largely be contained but millions of tonnes of greenhouse gasses are pumped into the atmosphere every day doing far more damage, and although it is a sad thing, fact of the matter is that renewable energy sources are just not efficient at the moment.
I’m sure you will all disagree with me but I think it’s worth thinking about.
good point, the argument over nuclear power has nout to do with the quake. Its just the television telling you your opinion. True nuclear power plant accidents are rare but its just the scale of the damage and the aftermarth,
CO2 is nothing in comparison to methaine (spelling), which is 3-4 times more toxic than CO2
well said that sir
True that, but pumping greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere has gone pretty wrong, and nuclear accidents dont compareto the damage those babies are doing.
but the government is convincing us CO2 is so bad, its nothing in comparison to other gases we as a species emit in to the atmosphere
…nothing is failsafe, I prefer a world without nuclear-power plants and all their nuclear waste…

You are totally right, the emphasis on C02 does lead other more dangerous gasses to be ignored. I think less than 10% of greenhouse gasses come from power generation but don’t quote me on that. The thing is power generation is something which can be altered easier than changing the whole pattern of food production which is the biggest emitter. As food is something which we all rely on it is a bit of a touchy subject, whereas power is sort of a luxury and easier to make people feel bad about and change.
I think I have gone a bit off subject here sorry, should probably start a new thread for this one.
Thoughts go out to all affected in Japan!!!!
here here!
Sorry, my thoughts goes to Japan as well.

you made me pissed off you see, so I had to opose you….this is really a nail in the coffin of the nuclear industry….these plants in mentioned where to be fail-safe….so much fail-safe for you..
there is no such thing as ‘fail safe’ imo, everything and anything can go wrong, there are too many variables
imo we should sit tight until we have nuclear fusion sorted. No chance of meltdown with that. We’re getting closer…
but do the world powers really want something that can sort out issues like this? theres too much money to be made, well dirty money
