I must say mate – you really need to try and re-focus some of your negative energy in to at least ‘good enough’ – as it seems what ever anyone suggests isnt gonna ‘do it for you’
ps I do agree my negative attitude is not helpful but I cant imagine how I am meant to change it, though I do endeavour to try. And I dont always feel so negative. Problem is it just seems to me there are a lot of losers in this world who have horrible lives and logically it is at least more likely than average that I will become one of them (UK wise). Doesn’t mean I am not going to do my up-most to try and stop that happening. But it also doesn’t make for the happyist of bunny’s nor the most optimistic of people. And yet I am aware faith in ones self and confidence; plus the ability to keep fighting for what you what are essential to success. But these things are very hard when you have a history of depression. And so it all spins round in my head. I just hope mindfulness is as good as it seems for that seems to offer a solution to it all. *rambles on*
maybe you should visit some museums or do something like that to spark your interest, or just take up a hobby that you never would have thought of before. find a passion in something. just looking up at the night sky makes me feel so excited and enchanted because it’s beautiful and fascinating and people call it useless but i want to learn as much about space as i can. explore everything that’s out there and something might click in you 🙂 be creative. even if it doesn’t get you a job, it will motivate you more and maybe make you feel happier about yourself.

the fact you realise that makes you a lot stronger and more likely to succeed than many so-called optimists. I’ve seen many “optmists” (particularly those what gain their false optimism from short term euphoria caused by drugs) end up totally fucking up their lives because they can’t handle setbacks and bad news when things start to go wrong.
There are not any easy answers or paths in life. That mindfullness stuff seems like a good idea as its derived from both Buddhism and modern practices of mental health care.

Cheers GL I hope you are right, gonna do my best to work hard and not let my worrys damage my chances. Mindfulness is fantastic, need to make sure I keep working at it.
Well, job hunting starts tomorrow so we shall see how things develop over the next few weeks.

been hunting for a passion all my life, only one I have ever discovered is drugs. Looking for passion when you have depression can be a little tricky I think, on reflection. I do enjoy museums though and try and visit them from time to time.
well visit more museums! collect something, join a club or a team or just set yourself a goal 🙂 depression feels like it’s all-encompassing but it’s not.

museums, and getting to them, costs money. Money I have not got. No idea what club or team I could join though I like the idea of some kind of social sport type thing. Can never find anything when I look into it though sadly.

totally agree GL, which was my meaning behind the ‘just good enough’ mentality, as if we strive for perfection we are ultimatley setting ourselves up for failure, but prehaps I dint phrase it right last night as I was fucking hammered (ahem…..)
And mindfulness can really help – I’ve tried it and am struggeling to grasp it – but I can see the benefits – its about practicing it when things are better – so that when the shit is hitting the fan we are able to use it without too much difficulty – which I havent yet even got anyway near !!!

noo museums are free. well most of them. you pay to go into certain parts but i’m sure (last time i read) most are free, like the natural history museum or.. my favourite.. the science museum!
look around at local community centers and stuff.. maybe join a gym or a cycling team or a running team or rugby or something that catches your eye. there are lots of things out there that aren’t openly advertised.. like book clubs, cooking classes, astronomy groups, painting classes.. just google around. maybe volunteer somewhere to give yourself more motivation.. like at the rspca center or something 🙂 sorry if these sound like stupid ideas to you.

You have to pay for a lot of museums these days and getting to london is expensive. There are a few local ones but their a bit crap and have already been. I am a member of a gym going to start again tomorrow now I can go up a flight of steps without feeling like death. Cooking classes are also expensive. Hopefully going to do some volunteer work soon but I am still about unsure about it all really. We shall see, cheers for the ideas.

I know where extraslim lives as I once didn’t live too far away myself and it depends – private museums do have entry costs but the Council run ones can have free entry – but they are not that well funded. There used to be a fairly good one in Reading, I remember in the 90s they had (to demonstrate how sewage was dealt with before the advent of Thames Water) a excellent display of an old style loo what discharged directly into a cesspool, complete with a particularly fine and realistic stuffed rat looking up through the hole. That said it was one of the better exhibits, I think Thames Water and the Environment Agency had part funded it..
some of the local adult ed centres do good subsidies for people on benefits, so may be worth checking out? I loved my art class – the older folk were hillareous and so naughty and good humor’s! really miss the fact I cant go, am even looking to see if I could work late on thus when I finish my course so I can get back to it!
I totally agree about public transport from your neck of the woods to get into london, my mate comes from guildford and its extortionate just to get to waterloo!!
what sort of voluntary work you interested in?
I used to help out in ‘holiday’ clubs for children with physical and mental learning difficulties when I was 13 to about 21, during the school holidays so the parents had some respite, absoultley loved it! the kids were brilliant and such fun, its prob all changed now what with crb checks etc, didnt have to do them when i started. I just turned up and started..
