    hmmm…

This was released today in UroToday, a medical journal type thing. you have to sign up to read it so ill just post it as a quote.. Its not really telling us anything new but im really glad that ketamine related bladder problems are being recognised as a problem and that they are taking the time to investigate further..

SAN FRANCISCO, CA USA (UroToday.com) May 30, 2010

New research sheds light on recreational drug’s impact on urologic health

Ketamine, a popular recreational drug whose abuse by young people, is associated with smaller bladder capacity, pelvic pain, and voiding frequency and urgency, according to new research presented at the 105th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Urological Association (AUA). Researchers from Hong Kong will share data on ketamine’s impact on urologic function from a community survey of teenagers with a history of using the drug. The study data will be presented to the media during a special press conference on Sunday, May 30 at 11:30 a.m. PDT.
Researchers surveyed 66 teens and young adults, aged 13 to 25, through a series of clinic sessions. More than 97 percent had a history of ketamine abuse. The team administered a self-assessment survey examining pelvic pain, urgency and frequency, and conducted kidney ultrasound, post-void bladder scans and uroflowmetry studies on the patients. Subjects using ketamine more than five times per week reported detrimental effects on the bl
adder. Patients also self-reported the use of nimetazepam (51 percent), cocaine (45.7 percent) and cannabis (39.4 percent). Patients who had abused ketamine for more than 24 months had increased pelvic pain, urgency and frequency (6.16 vs. 3.92), and those who had used the drug more than five times per week had a markedly decreased bladder capacity (187.7 ml vs. 337 m.) compared to those who had a lower frequency of using the drug. Symptom scores improved in patients who ceased using the drug, and continued to improve over time. Those who had abstained for a full year had improved bladder capacity.
“Recreational drug use is an ongoing problem, not just in the United States, but around the world,” said Tomas L. Griebling, MD, MPH, a spokesman for the AUA. “The good news from this study is that ketamine users can improve their urologic symptoms by quitting.”
Ketamine is an anesthetic (NMDA receptor antagonist) that at high levels can bind to opioid μ receptors and sigma receptors. As a recreational drug, ketamine induces a state of dissociation, similar to the effects produced by phencyclidine (PCP). Ketamine is known to cause amnesia, delirium, impaired motor function, high blood pressure and respiratory problems.

About the American Urological Association: Founded in 1902 and headquartered near Baltimore, Maryland, the American Urological Association is the pre-eminent professional organization for urologists, with more than 16,000 members throughout the world. An educational nonprofit organization, the AUA pursues its mission of fostering the highest standards of urologic care by carrying out a wide variety of programs for members and their patients.

Introduction and Objectives: A multidisciplinary outreach volunteer clinic is set up in community centers to assess the physical, psychological and urological status of teenagers with history of ketamine abuse.
Methods: 66 teenagers aged 13 to 25, were recruited and being assessed in 6 clinic sessions from July to September 2009. Urological assessment included a self-reported-questionnaires on pelvis-painurgency- and-frequency (PUF), uroflowmetry , post void bladder scan and kidney ultrasonography. The amount of ketamine usage was estimated by the weight of table salt using a electronic balance. The ketamine dose per week was calculated as the weight of table salt in gram multiplied by the frequency of ketamine usage per week. Associations were tested using Mann-Whitney U test for numeric nonparametric variables.
Results: Twenty-four percnet are female. First drug abuse was as early as age ten. 77% reported recreation as the main reason of drug abuse. 48.5% claimed no dependency yet. 70% can afford the drug cost while 43% could get drug from friends for free. The commonest drug being abused was ketamine (>97%) followed by nimetazepam (51%), cocaine (45.7%) and Cannabis (39.4%). Ketamine abuse of more than 24 months is observed to have higher PUF symptom score (6.16 vs 3.92; p=0.043) and bordersome score (2.68 vs 1.42; p=0.025).Abuse more than 5 times a week is associated with smaller bladder capacity (187.7ml vs 337.0ml; p=0.025). More that 10gm-salt-equivalent per week is noted with higher symptom (6.2 vs 4.8; p=NS) and bordersome score (2.8 vs 1.0; p=0.009). Longer quitting-duration (1 year, 6 months, 3 months vs <3 months) was associated with lower symptom (5.54, 5.25, 5, 4.11) and bothersome score (2.08, 1.75, 1.67, 0.89). Higher bladder capacity is noted in those quitted for one year (386.7ml vs 243.0ml; p=NS).
Conclusions: This is the first community survey of urological function in teenagers with history of street ketamine abuse. It suggested some detrimental effect of street ketamine abuse. It provides evidence for further longitudinal study and material for cognitive therapy to them. Source of Funding: none

Its from china tho, so might be LIES!

its from Hong Kong. Whilst HK is now part of China, as a former UK colony it has a public healthcare system just like the NHS, and hospitals like this one specialising in urology.

Princess Margaret Hospital, Hong Kong – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

it also has a rave scene similar to that in East Anglia, with boatloads of ket users :laugh_at:

…ive always wonderd if there is a free party scene in that part of the world. ive heard there is a yearly teknival in japan?

in CN and even SG there is a dance music scene in legal clubs. paradoxically licensing isn’t as heavily regulated as ours and there is less prejudice about making a noise in Chinese culture.. however penalties for posession are harsher. death penalty is extremely rare, but forced rehab is not! Illegal raves sometimes happen but they get busted same as ours, and when they do cops have guns.

there are events on the outskirts of Japan, but its not like England. only 20% of Japan is inhabited, the rest is proper wilderness with extreme weather conditions and extreme animals (bears!) so they have to choose their locations more carefully 😉

K cramps pretty much gone, had it since friday morning. Luckily i had lots of Tramadols otherwise i wouldn’t of been able to move and been in extreme pain for days.

I started sniffing the K crystals, normally i NEVER EVER snort them, only the powder and a couple of days of it i got extreme stomach problems. Maybe it’s just a coincidence but i really don’t think so. No more crystal k….

Maybe i just didn’t crush it enough though and it built up in my stomach lots.

K is proberbly the cleanest most in balance with your body drug going. It is hailed as a wonder drug in medicine.

I once got some K that was like snorting a burnt elactic band. The horrible smell stayed with me for a couple of days. I could smell smoke on the outbreath now and again as well. It was one of the worst drug experiences I have ever had.
Im only gonna buy from the good sources from now on.
I also got a batch once that would not all disolve in water. so that must have been cut. With what, I do not know but it was still nice.
I try & make sure I dont run out to avoid a desperate gamble street buy. I like to know what I am about to take these days.

If you make sure you buy raw granular Ket rather than powder, Then you cant really go wrong.

Rubbish! You tell that to all people with unrinary tract problems , f@cked stomaches, and colostomy bags , not to mention the myriad of mental health issues it gives long term users.

its not even a drug its a horse.

HA! I hope your being sarastic here mate.. If you want to see the actual effect it has on the bladder ill send you a pic from my latest endoscpoy.. NOT a pretty site.
But i do agree with half of your statement. It is a very safe anesthetic when used by medical professionals.. definatly not a wonder drug for the typical k head
