this risk of unconciousness or suffocation exists with lots of drugs including alcohol (although K’s effects do not help)

IMO though the problem still isn’t any one drug but because people do too much of everything in a short space of time these days as drugs are cheaper and more available than they used to be. its also common when someone has been “clean” for a while and then gets the chance to have a “mad weekend”…

The reason K features highly in negative incidents these days is simply because its easy ahd cheap to get – and also is that because it doesn’t keep you awake all night as much as amfetamine type stimulants people get into this pattern of it becoming an everyday drug :you_crazy

I am hearing about loads of men my sort of age dying in this fashion (or ending up in the Emergency Dept) after a weekend binge – not just because of K though, often pills and coke are just as bad..

I’ve also heard of lots of men committing suicide because they get this “extended comedown” where they feel they have fucked up their lives through too much drugs or when a life crisis occurs on the comedown and pushes them over the edge

or you get these blokes kicking off at the people closest to them and fucking up their lives further (often becoming estranged from their partners and families)

one reason why I have calmed down loads lately – people need to look after themselves before its too late…

but both K and skunk are class C though (don’t believe anyone who tells you skunk is class B, even if its cops or drug workers; they often lie to try and frighten people) – govt doesn’t care if you die from drugs (it proves their anti-drug points the more people who die!) , they only care if you nick stuff and/or cost people money..

although its used in both human and veterinary medicine as an anaesthetic, its effects are a bit more than just being a “tranquiliser” or “depressant” – unlike other substances such as benzodiazepines (valium) which induce tiredness and sleep, K actually has a slight stimulant and euphoric effect in small doses; so people are actually often quite active when they do their first bits of K.

If it just made people tired and monged out it would never have gained such popularity on the rave scene…

Also K isn’t always consumed on its own but also with other stimulants

there is however a point where the anaesthetic effects will start to take over and people will find it hard to move or do much else – this is called the k-hole.

the bigger problem is that (same with other drugs) people take more and more throughout the night and this is how they often end up as zombies, and also being in a k-hole isn’t exactly sociable.

There are claims that its continued use makes people warped and twisted but this may just be the mental effects of continually doing drugs which affect the mind – a sort of “extended comedown”.

With all drugs there is a “ceiling effect” or “law of diminishing returns” ; after a certain point it is not worth taking any more..

TBH I don’t think most people who use K at raves actually set out to get into that particular state (at least at the height of the party); this usually happens by accident as people underestimate how much they have already taken…

At most of the raves I’ve been to I’ve noticed the “zombies” recover within a few minutes/hours and are up stomping again.

the whole K phenomenon IMO is as much a product of peoples lack of self control (when people overdo things) ; as well as economics affected by the anomalies that anti-drugs law introduces…

sorting out good quality pills or MDMA is dealing class A drugs.

Even amfet is class B. If the dealer gets caught, they are facing a few months/years in prison – whereas ketamine as class C only gets people a slap on the wrist a lot of the time, so its popular amongst “small time” dealers sorting out their friends.

OTOH the cops can’t even increase the sentences for class C dealing to match the others, as it defeats the whole classification as dealers will obviously think “better to hang for a sheep than a lamb!”

At the moment, the profits from selling ketamine match those of selling MDMA; for a fraction of the legal risk. it can also be sold “on the side” by existing class A/B dealers as an extra earner as it won’t add much to the sentence if they are unfortunate enough to get caught.

Is it at all surprising the party drugs scene is awash with the stuff?
