Penampang: A college student here faces the death sentence after being caught with more than 50gm of ketamine on Thursday. The 19-year-old local, believed to be a pusher, was detained near the Beverly Hills Apartments in Bundusan here following a tip-off at about 10.15pm.
“We believe he was in the midst of distributing the drugs,” said District Police Chief, DSP Madang Usat.
Anti-narcotics police led by Chief Insp Ederian Masaat apprehended the suspect, a student at an institute here, and found on him a box containing the white substance.
“Inside the box we found a plastic bag containing two smaller packets which had the ketamine weighing about 52gm.
“The drugs are believed to be able to fetch up to RM5,000,” Madang said, adding this was the biggest drug seizure here so far this year.
“If found guilty, the student faces death by hanging under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.”
I did have a look on the official court reports website and it appears these days they don’t hang as many people as they used to. this is a extract from a report in 2005 where a dealer got busted with 130g of meth and a few grams of K.
Keputusan Mahkamah: The accused pleaded guilty to an alternative charge under section 39A(2) of the DDA 1952, and convicted and sentenced to a 10-year jail (w.e.f. date of arrest 3.5.2005) and 10 strokes of rattan. The accused discharged, which was amounting to an acquittal of the amended charge under section 39B of the DDA 1952.
