tiletamine has less psychedelic effects, and most diverted preparations contain benzodiazepines such as zolazempam. I have not found it indicated for human use but I haven’t got a copy of the BNF here and the senior staff (some of whom are relatives of mine) get suspicious when they see me reading it at work (I think they took away the copy in my office “so I wouldn’t get any ideas..”)
tiletamine is indicated mostly for tranquilising bears, horses and large non-human primates. these intelligent animals will freak out as much as a human would if they had been given ketamine without knowing the effects, and it is not a good thing to have a freaked out and very large animal in the surgery.
