  • There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, and Dim, and we sat in the Korova Milkbar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening. The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence :crazy_dru:crazy_dru:crazy_dru:crazy_dru:crazy_dru :crazy_dru:crazy_dru

    Ain’t watched this for years.

One of few films that live up to the original book. Thus amd fear and loathing.

‘Singing in the rain’ is a very different song after you’ve watched a chocolate orange!

you know korova means for fuck sake in polish!

    Ha ha, quality!

Awesome film with a great soundtrack!

Some of clockwork orange was filmed at my brothers university (brunell) When he is in the brainwashing institute, he walks in to the guard sitting at the desk, that is in one of the halls of residence and when he is in his room talking to the nurse, that is once of the rooms. (not very big eh) Also in the hallway/stairwell scene there is a clock high up on the wall that was still there in 2001.

And yes when I say my brothers university I mean it is his own university, he owns it. Not this Brunell fellow whoever he might have been. Oh thtat’s right didn’t he pioneer the Great Way Round? (I’m funny)

    Yes you are!

I nearly transferred there to study electronics, but couldn’t because I’d failed one of the first year exams from doing too many drugs.

My real name is Alex 😉

I think drinking milk and doing large amounts of cathinones might have driven me to ultra-violence, in between regular trips to the loo (as the combination would play merry hell with my stomach).

You sure about that? Polish guy told me it was the equivalent of the German scheisse…

    Google Translate

Kurwa is Polish for ‘whore’. I live with two Polish builders, they use it almost every other word!

(pronounce it like ‘koorva’ and roll the ‘r’ a bit)

Korova is indeed russian for cow. A lot of the language in that book/film is based on russian. “Droog” means friend, devotchka means girl, nadsat means “teen,” etc.

yes – at the time of production PL was very much in the shadow of the Soviet Union and viewed as just “Soviet Territory”. We were frightened those blighters might drop atomic bombs on us, never mind competing for “our” jobs.

Even in the 1980s the Polish friends I had at high school (which was in SE England on the border of Reading and South Oxfordshire) were very wary of saying what their parents did for a living, they certainly were not builders but well educated middle class spies working at the BBC Caversham surveillance monitoring centre.

Polski’s said to me that kurwa is like how we say fuck.. they didn’t actually say it meant fuck but they said it’s like how we say oh fuck, never really bothered to translate it as i guess when we say fuck, piss, shit the meaning really has no relevance in the sentence it’s just an expression really isn’t it.
