  • Fluid Foundation Review – Launch Party 23rd Feb http://www.fluidfoundation.com/venueDetails.asp?BarRef=3041

You’ve had your dim sum at Yauatcha , you’ve seen House of Flying Daggers but you still can’t get your fix for all things oriental. Well, you could do a lot worse than indulge in a night at KFK to get your Kung Fu kicks.

The monthly Kung Foo Kitchen night at Club NYT tempers a hip hop style night with Kung Fu movies (projected on the wall of the dancefloor) and an eclectic mix of music (drum n bass, ska, soul and latin house classics from different DJs each month such as Ben Wilcox, Ed D’Souza). Hence the friendly crowd is an equally mixed bag with beautiful boys wearing fur-hooded anoraks and jeans mingling with lycra-clad lasses.

Hip hop touches are limited to a coupla pieces of graffiti art, the odd record but the best touch are the breakers. Funk and Disorderly were the crew in on the launch night and they were jaw-droppingly good. Accompanied by live congas they came on at 11pm, which was also when the Kung Fu films started rolling.

Though the night doesn’t really kick off till 11, if you want to take advantage of their decent drinks promos (two-for-one on bottles of Bud and Stella) and cheaper entrance (£3 before 10, £6 after) then turn up a touch earlier.

If you’re in the neighbourhood and looking for a cool night out with a cool crowd then leave the suburban chavs to the neighbouring Tiger Tiger and pay this easy to swallow hip hop night a visit. KFK’s got a nice kick.
