I’ve found Toshibas to be robust and not blighted by the “exploding Japanese battery” problem that has affected Dells and other machines using Sony battery technology..

If you pick up last years model it tends to be cheaper, and have less design faults as well.

maybe if you are planning on working on battery power for long periods but they aren’t cheap though….

TBH I’d get an MP3 player though for the car. The temptation to fiddle with the settings whilst driving will be too much and laptops are more distracting IMO..

thats because the charging circuit design is badly designed and eventually “cooked” the battery. It can happen with all sorts of portable electronic equipment with secondary (rechargeable) batteries, for a variety of reasons to do with how the batteries are charged.

The batteries have a limited life anyway so often second-hand equipment suffers from this problem.

I would class it as bad design but many manufacturers tolerate it as users often just replace the battery and its more money for the manufacturers…

I have often been down the road of wanting to get a laptop and then not bothering as there is to many to choose from,

one thing you guys maybe be able to help me with what is the difference between a laptop and a notepad, as notepads are cheaper they best suit my budget i only want to use it for internet access would one do the job

If you are talking about a PC or Mac type machine with a keyboard (and not a PDA which you write on with a stylus), physical size is the only difference other than technical specifications.

Notepads is a term sometimes used for smaller machines intended to be carried about more often than larger laptops. TBH I have not heard the term used for a while.

NB: All portable equipment is heavier than you think especially when you consider the weight of batteries and power supply units that must accompany them.
