As you all know, Japan was devastated by a horrific earthquake and tsunami in March which has so far claimed over 12,000 lives and left many thousands more homeless, with at least 15,000 people still unaccounted for. Large parts of the north-east of the country are still without basic necessities such as electricity, medical supplies, food and clean water, with around 170,000 people currently living in sheltered accommodation provided by the government and aid agencies. With the on-going threat of radiation leaks and a fractured infrastructure, the situation in Japan is far from over. While the international media will slowly withdraw its eyes from Japan, the need for vital aid work there is becoming more important than ever.
Which is why, on 20th May, London’s finest underground DJs will gather in Brixton for a good cause….and surely one of the most havin’ it nights of the year! Roland 303, 909….no one can doubt the massive influence Japan has had on London’s underground dance music scene and the acid techno sound. Now, in their time of need, Stay Up Forever, Kinetic, Malfaiteurs, Coin Operated, Re Rave All, Mutant Bass, Z Shed, Don’t, Ill FM and more will all be uniting to party with our Japanese friends.
All (yes, all) proceeds will go direct to the Disaster Relief Headquarters in Miyagi and Fukushima Prefectures and the Disaster Contribution Money Raising Committee for Iwate Prefecture. This way, we can be sure that all money raised will go directly to the people who need it most.
London’s underground music scene has a long and proud history of fund raising events for various causes, both locally and around the world. Now, with our special connections between Japan and the London party scene, we will get together for what is sure to be a blinding night of pumping urban techno and other beats at the legendary Brixton Jamm!
This is going to be big, so get ready….and let’s dance for Japan!!
Please spread the word!!
