But people have to be extremely careful about how this “problem” is “dealt with”. its hardly the case our cops and security forces have sat back and “done nothing” following the attacks on our country. As a response to this “terrorist threat”, scrutiny and surveillance of the actitivites every citizen in this country and the world has been vastly increased.

the wider problem is the definition of an “extremist” can easily be widened.

It can even be argued by “normal society” that communities which are racially and culturally diverse but champion regular criminal activity such as the widespread use of illegal drugs, “anti-social behaviour” and the disregarding of private property rights are also “extreme”

Since 2005 a lot of money was set aside by the Home Office so the Police could deal with any problems caused by “extremists”.

Here in East Anglia, there are actually a lot of Muslims but they are moderate in their views, contribute a lot to the local community via their businesses and don’t draw a lot of attention to themselves. I didn’t realise myself how many there were until I was researching local Asian restaurants!

But East Anglia got an allocation of money anyway to deal with any “potential problems”.

This money was used to pay for the large Police operations against some illegal raves in 2006 and 2007 (and the tactics used were those intended to break up something such as a “terrorist training camp”).

in 1991/2 whilst studying in London I actually had the Islamic “militants” try to recruit me at uni.

At that time they were (and to a large extent still are) nothing more than a glorified street gang (albeit with a bit of intelligence)

they weren’t making bombs at that time though although they were involved in crime. They funded their group by making “grubbers” (devices to bypass vehicle security systems ). these they would use to steal high value motor cars in the West End, which were then sold on in Pakistan and other countries. The proceeds from these sales were shared between the “religious” groups and for individual gain.

but the way they approached me was saying “you must give up your drugs and partying and attend our meetings to be saved”

I just said “hang on mate, I am about to drop out of this shitty fucking place anyway and go back to Reading, and you want me to give up the fun bits in my life and attend more pointless lectures?” and just walked away :laugh_at:

incidentally lots of people from Asian communities told the cops about this sort of gang activity, but the cops did nothing (or were told to do nothing?) because some of these youths came from the families of very rich businessmen who were making a lot of big military-industrial complex deals with the UK at the time.
