but did she mean 31 April rather than 31 August? There are sometimes two teks in France, one in April/May Day and another later in August. The May Day one tends to get “tolerated” due to France’s history and May Day traditionally being a working class holiday across the EU.
I remember being told in previous years by friends who attended that the end of the French teknival is signalled by a free display of the might of the Gendarmerie Nationale ; who slowly drive in more cop vehicles including apparently ones which say in English, French and German “PLEASE LEAVE QUIETLY NOW OR CS GAS WILL BE DISCHARGED FROM THIS VEHICLE”.
Also they have even flown over the site with military aircraft and “missiles” (inert ones though with no explosive). My French friends say however that the bulk of all this is really for show and they don’t actually use any of it against people unless they are particularly stupid and stubborn and try to stay on the site(no different from how it used to be in England)
