Only doing it as i have a spare hard drive and fancy having a play. Was told that Linux Mint is the easiest one to use for newbies as apparently its got a lot of what i will need out the box.
Urm downloaded the ISO file, but i don’t have a 700MB disc (only 650MB RW discs). Put it on a blank DVD+R guessing this might explain why i get stuck on the boot screen.
Shall get some more blank discs at the weekend then try again
Try Ubuntu if you are new to linux it is the easiest. If you r worried about usb mouse and keyboard then try with only keyboard attached. Linux instals can ‘hang’ forages, but then it suddenly sorts itself out.
It is unlikely it is the graphics card that is causing the problem if there is one. If the problem persists then I would be looking at the pc architecture and possibly 64 bit.
try to install from live cd’s as if they start the pc it is likely to install correctly – just realised when this was 1st posted – cloud cookoo land
but to finish . when doing an install with dual boot ( win xp or vista & linux) choose the manual formatting of the hdd & hen you can set the size of each partition or choose a different hdd to install on
