Cheers Racoon and thanks everyone!……From the toxicology results he just had MD in him (2.6 to each something of something of blood) so he just purely overheated….he was new to the scene probably his 3rd or 4th rave and probably only 3rd or 4th time taking MD so wasnt to savvy. Doctors said all he needed was a splash of water and some fresh air……Been told he stripped himself down to his boxers so he knew he was overheating just had nowhere to cool down. Psysafe said people was recording him fitting and shit which is not cool!
Mot only is that a gross breach of privacy (you’d get disciplined at my work and possibly arrested for doing so) that still brings bad publicity to the crew by trying to “hide bad news” (an East Anglian crew did the same, to the point I had to look on the websites of the Ambulance Service and Police to work out what had happened to a casualty there (thankfully he made a full recovery).
The folk doing it are lucky that Metpol / NCA don’t currently have the resources to ask Cheltenham to pick through petabytes of data and find who is doing this, though it is perfectly possible they might still try and do that even months years later (as there was a death the statute of limitations might not apply)
Also this can cause the phones to transmit and saturate the mobile network. The only thing anyone should be doing with a mobile phone in this situation is calling 999 / 112 – the telecoms operators and blue light services would rather have 5 calls for the same incident than none at all. I occasionally photograph an Ambulance if I see them at work (they are fairly frequent visitors) as my office window overlooks the car park but am very careful not to inadvertantly photograph patients and I won’t share the pictures in public until they have been cleared by management (the one I did take a pic of was being run by a voluntary organisation but working alongside EastAmb so it may be of value to everyone for publicity purposeS).
These raves need a few sober people on deck employed to look after the vulnerable. Although traditionally we should really all look after each other at raves – its never a certainty and shit like this does happen.
When I was at Shambala I took some turbo acid and lost know-hope. I then spent between 2 to 6 hours walking around lost and getting really anxious and frustrated ( I knew my tent was nearby but for the life of me I couldn’t get there) I then started to believe I was dead and searching for nirvana which didn’t help I guess – (as it was always in the opposite direction of the tent)
Anyways I was getting really frustrated, when all of a sudden these two young girls looked at me and asked if I was ok. I mumbled something about lsd and being dead and they asked me my name
‘izbeckistan’
‘ok I’m sarah and this is Jessica, we will look after you OK hun?’
They each took my hand and walked me around the festival occationally stroking my arm for comfort. They ten led me to this ‘tea and empathy tent’ where I was sat down on a lilo and given a cup of tea!
This gave me time to chill down and reflect on what I was doing and where I was going. I then walked straight back to my tent and re joined the group where I took a downer and went to sleep.
– so yeah It wouldnt hurt to have three or four people like this at a big production rave – just to keep an eye out on the vulnerable and prevent drug casualties.
Oh also when I made eye contact with the girls I breifly believed they were angels taking me to the other side :p (yeah I can be really daft at times!)
The only parties i’ll go to/play at in london are ones that Stinky pink are involved in…. totally trust Phil in the people he’ll do parties with and where… he’s old school..

I don’t find this to be the case anymore. Barring some really posh nightclubs the prices I have paid for licensed events has usually been cheaper than a rave, especially as a student. Entry prices for a nice venue like Koko will set you back all of £7 (£5 if you are a student) and there are many others with similar prices. Raves are becoming way too expensive now.
There have always been some venues like this near Universities (i suspected it was one that was around when I was in London some years ago and it turns out that this was the Camden Palace) and in the affluent central areas. The running cost of the night time economy in those areas is subsidised to some extent by taxes paid by local businesses (including the unis), and Metpol being fully aware there are many middle class students from rich foreign nations they need to protect from the locals.
That venue has always been a crossover point between guitar and electronic music since the 80s, but I rarely went to Camden as I come from South London and every time I went North of the Thames the Met would be on my case.
It didn’t even seem to be just because of my skin colour (or the same would have happened where I lived and the Met were trying to move on from that) but because I was from SE13 by birth, lived in SE9 and I was studying in W1 my travel patterns must have matched a profile of someone “dodgy” – they had CCTV in London by the late 1960s and by the late 80s were experimenting with computer based profiing.
They must have thought I was an English born dealer, were thinking “why would he travel several zones and cross the Thames to get to uni?” and that I must have nicked the student ID from a “genuine Malaysian student” at some point. There are reasons for this as there is widespread duplication of real names amongst those of Malaysian Chinese ancestry of a certain age group but cops use this as an excuse to “stop and check the whole bloody lot of them” (whether it is in UK,MY or SG). I should have answered the cops in a fake Chinaman accent but probably would have only got nicked for “being racist”.

Poor excuse by psysafe; if its true they why didnt THEY step in?
I know they are no medics; they are their for security but if they see someone fitting they should find an organizer, or take it upon themselves to take him to one side.
It would seem im much less forgiving of the choices made by the organizers regarding location. If there had been just small outdoor space, like there is at most parties, things may have worked out differently.

though its not what I’d consider a negative racial stereotype, something I’ve encountered more recently when I was attending East Anglian raves, is a lot of youths somehow got it into their heads that because I work for a local healthcare company, am a “bit older and more mature” and of SE Asian ancestry, that I can fix people. I can understand why this happens, but I only look after the computers and telephones at these places! The best I can (and did) do is switch on my portable GPS in case the location was needed by Eastamb, tell them to “get the casualty clear of the crowd without being too rough, keep watch on them especially breathing / lifesigns and calm them down and if they really thought life was in danger to call nines” – unfortunately many ravers delay this because the Police turn up as well although this is routine operational practice for any night time event, licensed or not.
The casualty did not need hospital treatment and made a full recovery, but it was one of the main incidents why I stopped attending these events.
I see enough ambos and patients bluelighted at work as it is and have full responsibility for 3 telephone systems at different sites which are regularly used for nines calls and comms to NHS and operate 24/7 so whilst I do have some experience in dealing with emergency situations I would rather do something less stressful at weekends…
The Dutch have drugs advice workers in all towns at “night time economy areas” (so they are available to anyone attending a range of events) but they are part subsidised by the Council and some areas are reducing funding same as in the UK…
