ok so yesterday i was surfing the internet, when it all started to go really slow, then my fan started to make some noises…
took a look in settings and downloaded a few fan control applications, and it reads -1RPM for my right fan…
so im assuming its broken, or maybe just blocked? anyone have a similar problem and know if i can fix it myself without having to actually send it back for repairs?

Not sure, when my mac was playing up I took it to an Apple authorised repair place (not actually Apple) and I noticed they offered to just diagnose the problem for a small fee and then I guess from that you could determine whether you could fix it yourself.
I’m pretty sure Mac Fan Broken was the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season!

It’s blocked, if it was broken it would not be turning at all.
As for whether you can do it – I don’t know. Taking laptops apart is the easy bit, putting them back together is the tricky part.
Helps if you keep all the screws, work on a table with a lip around the edge, lots of bright light, lots of patience.
Probably. If you are a patient guy anyway.
I know fuck all about macs but I do know that it is gonna cost you an arm and a leg to fix. Try manual fan control or something in the mean time. I dunno what macs have instead of BIOS so you need to look it up.
I found this in 5 seconds on the net, give it a go go go https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/23049/smcfancontrol, just don’t overclock silly things.

yeah thats what i thoguht so i was maybe just gonna get an air compressor and get it blown in to the fan and hope it flushes it out and starts to get it spinning again?

yeah ive already tried a few fan controls but no luck, thats how i know its at -1

Minus one, it’s going backwards!!
exactly lol, do you think my compression idea will work?
its either going backwards or only doing a spin every very so often..

how old is it? you do know laptops do die of old age
yeah man but its brand new! lol literally like month and a bit old..!

then call apple-care and let them guide you in what to do….you have 6 months of phone-support at least, if you didnt buy the whole packet…which I would do, you can do it until the six months have gone.
…. warranty??? if it’s that new then it’s a piece of shit and needs fixing for free.
Yes, compressed air (usually from a disposable can, full on air compressors can be a bit harsh).
If the laptop is only a month old, then it should be under warranty, but I reckon it’s probably older than that.
-1 usually means the sensor in the fan is disconnected.
Macs are a PAIN IN THE ARSE to fix – very space age, very tight tolerances on putting together/taking apart BUT they are fixable.
Getting a part number (if the fan really is dead) is half the battle, after that it’s fitting the thing. Doable but not easy.
