yeah stupid idea … stupid party … doing a party in parklane (in the middle of the week?) is about as clever as finding the ritchest looking house in norfark breaking in and throwing a party with the owners still inside :you_crazy
yeah I do hope it was a skins type load of kids thing not a well known rig or something. That would (hopefully) get a lot of people in the scene very pissed off. But I get the impression it was more kids facebook and too much alcohol.

we’ll still get the blame tho as the majority suffers at the hands of the stupid minority as so offten is the case:hopeless:
I’d be happy if the upshot of this was a government crackdown on Skins and Facebook.
its being widely reported as a “illegal rave” and a “squat party”. the sad thing is it will impact on whatever decent squats are about in London, either residential squats or party venues
in the “bumpkin” areas the OB no longer tolerate party heads “squatting”, they say its just burglary/criminal damage rather than “proper squatting” (i.e by genuinely homeless people).
worse still, the Eastern Area constabularies (Suffolk / Norfolk / Cambs / Essex / Beds / Herts) are actually being used to help train the Met deal with protests and raves as apparently the bumpkin lot have better skills and experience now, having successfully stopped the bulk of Norfolk free parties, dealing with a very stubborn and determined crowd, but with slightly less violence than the Met would use!

Skins (and associated “yoof culture” maybe) but Facebook is tolerated as a valuable intelligence source – its usually got everyones real name on it and their friends, and if a copper asks for info they just get it handed over as soon as they show some sort of official paperwork!

This is one of several reasons why I don’t have an account with them (not that I’m particularly up to no good, I just don’t like the idea of my details being on what is effectively a massive database accessible by the police, ad agencies and any other nosey parker that has no business knowing me)
Riot Cops Bust Up Park Lane ‘Illegal’ Rave
11:53pm UK, Friday February 12, 2010
Jo Couzens, Sky News Online
A suspected illegal rave by more than 2,000 teenagers at one of London’s most prestigious addresses had to be broken up by riot police on Thursday night.Facebook Party in Park Lane Town House, London
Teenagers swarmed onto the roof, prompting fears it could collapse
The youngsters had descended on an abandoned townhouse on smart Park Lane when things turned ugly.
Police, ambulance workers and the London Fire Brigade were called to the scene amid safety concerns.
But when they arrived, they were pelted with bricks and bottles by partygoers who had clambered onto the roof of the five-storey building, sparking fears it could collapse.
As police dealt with situation, using loud hailers to order the teens onto the street, Park Lane and Oxford Street had to be closed, causing traffic chaos in the West End.

Partygoers told witnesses the ‘event’ was a squat party organised on Facebook
Officers were called around 11pm but it took until the early hours of this morning to clear the area entirely.
According to some eyewitnesses, several of the teenagers said the gathering was a squat party arranged on Facebook.
Detectives are investigating the claims and searching for the party’s organiser.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “The overriding concern of all agencies was to ensure the safety of people inside the premises as the roof was thought to be unsafe.”
No arrests have been made.
